I thought I would post on a topic which may have been covered before but a topic which affected us and is concerning additional charges other than posted in the Caravan Club handbook. I don't know whether I'm being unreasonable but we have just stayed on a CL site which we pre booked for a few days in October. At £15/night with advertised facilities inc. WC, Shower and H&C was enough to pay so we thought. However, when we arrived we learned that there was an additional £5 / caravan to use the shower and toilet which were in the form of Portashower and Portaloos with no lighting. Now I have seen showers offered with a 50p charge / use, but I thought it a bit steep to have to pay £5 to use the toilet / day. Are our expectations too high, or should the CL site vendors have been more transparent about their charges in the CL handbook. So what do you think?

I am happy to accept that £5 per unit seems excessive to use the showers in addition to the normal fee. I suspect the CC don't know about this so perhaps it would be a good idea to leave some feedback on th CC webnsite in the form of a review where you could mention this.
You are right to raise this. There is no way I would pay £15 a night and then pay additional £5 to use the shower & the loo! Did you pay it or leave?
Definitely report it - your expectations are not high, at all. I've just paid £15 a night on a commercial site in Cornwall for a fully serviced pitch, free hot showers & free dogs!

I have also commented on this before. I can't go away in low season but even in high season with the extra costs of ehu plus awning then paying to use a shower.you will find it is just as cheap to use the club sites. At least you can have toilets with heating at this time of year. Unless going to cl/cs,s with no facilities it is not much cheaper.
Also I have noticed that some of these are along very narrow roads or not very easy to access.
Don't miss understand me I like the idea of a peaceful setting and the small sites . i have only used or found two that were very good.but not many at reasonable prices.
Well I've looked at the entry for 862 in the CC handbook and it says fr £15 but at the time of booking I was not told of the additional charges. To be fair, in the end we used our van for showers, and our van loo for light duty use, and their loo for heavy work and in the end were not charged BUT we were not told of the extra additional charge at the booking time which in my opinion is not playing the game. We've caravanned for 2 years now and up until this event have always been quite clearly informed of all costs at booking time. I've learned a lesson now and in future will ask the site owners to confirm in writing (email or post) what their charges will be for the duration of the stay. I will also add that a couple of other users of the site whilst we we were there expressed their concern regarding the method of charging having agreed a booking.
The most common extra charge we have come accross is for an awning or a dog on a CL, the basic pitch charge is often for two adults, with any extras at around £2 each. The basic pitch fee with EHU is around £10 per night, so a family of 4 with a dog and awning can often be as much as £18per night, but this is still cheaper than most of the CC or commercial sites during high season. I agree that the CL guide should show as much clarity as possible, but often print space is restricted and some facilities may be added or removed during the lifetime of the guide.
The guide does however advise contacting the site for upto date information before you book, so maybe then is the time to ask about any hidden prices or availability of facilities?

The Caravan Club advertise wi fi at some sites but dont say it costs so they are not in the best position to complain. All charges should be made clear on all sites.
