Hi all,

We are planning on being in Pembroke over Christmas and the new year and normally find a little local place, but I am striking out all my calls are finding is either shut christmas day or open for drinks.

Can anyone recommend anywhere open for Christmas day Lunch at all?

Try the larger pub chains, Toby carvery, Brewers fayre, Two for one, Vintage Inns, although they are probably not exactly your dream of a small cosy pub with all the trimmings for a fantastic Christmas, they are fairly reasonably priced when it comes to festive food, compared with some places of the small pub type charging in the region of £100 a head for Christmas day lunch local to me. The pub chains food is rather standardised I know, but at least most of it is edible, where as you get no firm guarantee of this with a small pub whos quality depends on the chefs mood and soberness on the day!

Try The Stackpole at Stackpole, down the road from Pembroke, never been but heard good things about it and has some lovely apres dinner walking to Barrafundle if the weather is nice.

the ferry inn just under the bridge used to be good.

how far are you willing to travel from pembroke?

Romany girl - i know your intentions were good, but you obviously don't know Pembroke - they don't have chains ;)

Cannot recommend anywhere but in our experience the independents are always much better than a pub chain. Can't think of anything worse on Christmas day than being shuttled in and out of a pub chain cattle market for food.

As has been said the Stackpole Inn is a good venue and their food is generally good. Another alternative would be the Tudor Lodge at Jamieston which we preferred to the Stackpole as the food for me was better and the prices much much better.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I know we're all different but I find the complete opposite!   I avoid chain pubs like the plague - usually the kitchen staff are young and inexperienced and it tends to be "ping ping" food from boring menus.

Much prefer a small, independent pub with a homely menu - we always go out for Christmas lunch to privately run pubs and have never paid any more than £50 for 4/5 course lunch.  Because I'm vegetarian too, they are always willing to co-operate with menu choice if I warn them in advance of what I can eat!

We are the same we certainly would not do a chain pub on christmas day, we used to go to the lakes and found the most amazing independent pub there there.

We are staying in kilgetty, while we are happy to travel about we don't want to spend the day driving for obvious reasons.

We know of the ferry inn, but have never eaten there, I didn't know it was open for Christmas day.

Thank you for the suggestions we will look into stack pole and the Tudor inn.

Stackpole sets out to be a bit of a gourmet place, we found the prices were but the food was not. The Tudor Inn is much nearer to Kilgetty and on the main road so very easy to get to., the food we got was not fancy but very well cooked with a lot of care taken.

Well the options are getting more limited as the Tudor Lodge is closed Christmas day itself.

I will keep searching we also found somewhere called St Govans country inn.

You might need to increase your radious a little a drive further. Some nice food pubs in Little Haven (can't remember names but they will be on net) or maybe St Davids too.

I was just about to suggest the Jolly Sailor, they do an excellent Sunday lunch! The Cleddau Bridge Hotel is open Christmas Day, serving a 4 course lunch for £49.00 per person as is the Lamphey Court Hotel, also £49.00 per person.
As a regular visitor to Pembroke/shire I think you'll struggle to find a pub serving Christmas lunch, but certainly both the hotels I've mentioned are, it just depends if you're willing to pay that much?
