Take a look at Doxford Farm campsite. About 8 miles north of Alnwick. Basic but I love it. They have EHU, there is one toilet (in a garden shed but kept immaculate) showers are a mile away at the farm. South facing open aspect, not sure about buses though but they will advise. Lovely walks through the fields and only about 5 miles from Beadnell Bay

lobydosser enjoy your say at houghton le spring it is one of the best sites going i have stayed there a couple of times and i only live at seaham which ts only a few miles away do have a drive into seaham
I think there is a Londis at Embleton, but Alnwick is the main place for shops. Is there not a campsite at the Rugby Club in Alnwick too? The Longbank Farm Site does DA meets, although I have never been, and there are a couple of general dealers in Longhoughton, and it is a bit closer to Alnwick as well. Hope you get sorted. It is a beautiful part of the country Fiona
There is a site at the Rugby Club, been there, never again but I think we were unlucky ("travellers"). My review says it all, but others seem to think it's ok. We don't do meets but thanks for letting me know.

Longbank Farm CS is in very easy walking distance of the Spar in Longhoughton. They have a good range of basics along with newspapers and magazines. Some of the locals seem to gather for coffee in there but it's not a café as such. Driving into Alnwick from the site is very straight forward and doesn't take long. Alnwick itself has shops to meet most needs. Never stayed at the Rugby Club as doesn't tick all the right boxes for us. The Shepherd's Rest is next to a fairly busy road and the walk into Alnwick is very downhill so the walk back up with the shopping can be hard going! Have friends who live down the lane from the pub so have done the walk many times. Hope that helps a little. Happy to answer any other queries if I can.
Thanks, any idea what Shipley Smallburns is like? we wouldn't walk/use the bus for shopping, but for travelling around to the various sights which are accessible by public transport. We have changed to an automatic Shogun and OH does nothing but moan about the fuel consumption, hence my idea about the bus, which is free for us (for now, depends on Mr. Osbourne).

Hi, Have no direct experience of Shipley Small burns or the nearby Shipley Lane sites. Lovely area though. Re buses I would think limited bus options directly from the site and you would need to go into Alnwick. I tried a quick search and couldn't find easy reference to bus service to nearby Eglingham (but happy to be proved wrong!)Arriva X18 goes through Longhouton and to various places of interest along the coast. Appears to be an hourly service. Haven't used the bus as Mr. Osbourne thinks I will enjoy working even longer than I thought and fares are pricey so enjoy while you can!!
Thanks for the help and detailed info! Might try Longbank then, Sky satellite allowing (OH has to have Sky, but he leaves it up to me to find out, so woe betide if I have it wrong!)
