Hi. wondering if there's any recommendations for a nice site to go to for new year in scotland. Ideally it would have a bar and pool... and nice views. Don't want much, do I?? ;-)

Thanks in advance x

Think it will be difficult if not impossible at this time of the year to meet those requirements. Have you had a look at the campsite search on here for sites open all year in Scotland.

New Year has change a lot in Scotland in recent years.
Its either huge street parties, Edinburgh being the biggest, or an hour of telly after the Bells, then bed.

You are far more likely to find a campsite doing a New Year's Celebration in England than you are up here.

No such thing in Scotland its HOGMANAY but joking aside we go every year and have gone to Moffat for the last four year there is plenty of sites open and plenty to do you just have to find what suits you,we go to a Hotel for the night for a hogmanay dinner fireworks and a piper at midnight then dance the night away then get back to the van in the early hours worn out but its well worth it....

I believe the OP was looking for Campsites, not Hotels.

Most hotels will be doing something and charging appropriately for it.

Auchterarder Caravan Park used to do a Hogmanay/New Year party, but that changed hands a couple of years ago and I don't know if they are still doing them.
No pool there though.

The only site we have been on that has its own pool is Brier Lee at Longtown.
This is a small site behind a Guest House.

It hasn't a swimming g pool but the Grantown on Spey caravan site is very good and there is a huge free Hogmanay in the Square party in the centre of the town. Starts at 11pm till 2 am and is basically a massive Ceilidh with a fiddle band at one end of the street. Take you own drink but a brilliant evening, really good atmosphere. We've been going for years.

That sound interesting, unable to do it this year as plans already made but maybe next year. Its a good few years since we last stayed at that site but it seems an excellent C.C affiliated site now.

If you read the part you quoted again, you will see they said they go to a hotel and then back to their van. So they are not staying in a hotel. Though they were canny enough not to reveal where they went

Vangal wanted a bar and pool - was that a swimming pool or a pool table in the bar? I'd go to Mortonhall at Edinburgh, it has a bar, and you'd get the no.11 bus into Edinburgh for The Bells and the amazing street party (but you need to get tickets for that), and the fireworks at midnight can be seen for miles around.

Someone said Hogmanay is not what is used to be and sadly I'd agree - we used to go First Footing to our neighbours, or they'd come to us. That doesn't happen any more. But we still do what my father did - after the bells, my OH goes out the back door (letting out the old year), comes round and rings the front door bell, so I can open the door and he brings in our new year, carrying a lump of coal, bread, and a silver coin (all symbolic for warmth, food and money in the coming year).

Do you know if there are there taxis available at Granton, I would be going to the site with someone who cant walk far (even before celebrating).
Thanks, checked the C/S which is full and charging £50 per night.

A five year gap in that thread - must be a record!
I doubt if anyone can get booked onto any site with festivities on or nearby, just days before Hogmanay or New Year or whatever you want to call it. Best to book months ahead.
And maybe borrow a wheelchair for the person who can't walk far. It's less than 10 minutes into Grantown.
PS That particular site is ok but expensive even outside peak periods. £50 is a lot though!

That's funny, I didn't notice the 5 year gap! The celebrations are ongoing though anyway. Wheelchair? No.
If you knew him you'd laugh too.
You're right it's too expensive but full so folk are obviously willing to pay that which is a pity, I certainly wouldn't. I stayed there in the summer, it's an ok site, nothing special, expensive even then, think I paid £31 per night, two adults.
