We are in the Midlands and looking for anywhere within about 3-4 hours drive. We are 2 adults with a 12 year old looking for a site for a tent with electric hookup. Ideally we really want a swimming pool but not all the usual entertainment that goes with it (we've done all the Butlins type hols in the past!) A bar, restaurant, play area or games room would be a bonus as would animals ;-)
We have been spoiled by previous hols (Kelling Heath - Norfolk, Riverside - Newquay, Shamba - Dorset, Woodhovis - Tavistock). Having booked some amazing ones I am trying to get something good for 2014. We only do a one main hol which is camping for about 10-14 days so like a good base for days out but pref enough to do to be able to stay on site some days... I know I am hard to please!!
Any recommendations greatly appreciated :D xx

This is a great site and location . We went to the c&cc site which is next door for about 10 years with our boys. They loved it .
Plassey! Great base for Chester, North Wales beaches should we be blessed again with weather, Delamere. Also Llandegla which has fantastic bike trails for an older child. Site has a bar, which has occasional low key stuff like bingo and quizzes, there is a golf club, restaurant, cafe and craft shops. New play area for 2014 season and its own pool, but if you want something slightly more adventurous there is Plas Madoc pool with waves and slide.
Wow - thanks for the responses :) Some great ideas there... definitely going to keep Watergate in my virtual brochure ... looks ideal but we have been based in Newquay twice in the last 3 years and so have explored that area quite a bit. Will be a good site when we go back as I am sure we will. Liking the look of Plassey, Wood Farm and Home Farm. You've totally understood what I am after. Daughter wanting a pool and OH wanting no tacky entertainment always makes it a challenge!
Keep the ideas coming... I am drawing up a shortlist so I can give them a choice of 5 or 6 in the New Year. I have been banned from discussing hols until new year ;-)
Thanks Again.

Whitehill country park Paignton. We did seasonal there last yr. it's a big site with loads to do but without the rowdiness. We are going back seasonal again in 2014.
What about Stowford Meadows up near Ilfracombe? Site is big in size but definitely not "Haven" type of site. Has indoor pool plus a petting zoo/animals.
Another one down this way with a pool but no bar is River Valley (London Apprentice) near St Austell on the road to Mevagissey - has indoor pool but nothing else but is a nice little family owned site.
West Fleet Farm near Weymouth has a heated pool, small bar and restaurant serving beef from it's own Charolais cattle. By definition somewhere with a pool and bar won't be quiet in school hols though! It's a lovely part of the country with masses to do and see-I've been for the last 4 years or so and not seen anywhere near everything yet
there are reviews on here if you look
