Hi. We're looking at going away for the weekend in a couple weeks (me and the wife) but want to go somewhere different than usual.

We normally go for the smaller sites (5-15 or so pitches) with little facilities. Mainly because we like to avoid the "touristy" sites. The only thing we'd be after is hook up. Not bothered about toilet blocks, games rooms etc etc.

After one for around £10-15/night with a nice relaxed out the way feel.

We're based in Preston, Lancashire, and looking upto around 75 miles.

If anyone can suggest one I'd be grateful.

Trying to avoid hilly areas as the caravan brakes have developed an issue, but still wanting to get away (slow and steady for this one!)

Firemoth we too are from Preston and often go to Gibraltar farm in silverdale. Small with good walks and the toilets and showers are really nice, we pay £17 in high season but maybe cheaper now

Laverick Hall near Halton, Lancaster, or is that too near? it's lovely, £14 per night and has a shower and 2 loos.

Thanks for suggestions so far. Jarman farm sounds nice, might give it a go. Also wanted something in silverdale / carnforth area, but while brakes are poorly I'll give it a miss this time. And the Halton one definitely isn't too far (may not be far enough! :P)

Hi Firmoth

Me and our 12 year old boy go camping at Abbey Farm at latham nr Ormskirk.

We love it here it it has 2 lovely camping areas,

It has alot of tourers (which are all in seperate fields and are set out really nice)

It has a field with statics which is also set out lovely, they have there own field too.

There are shower blocks (these are kept clean)

There is Electric hook ups

The site has a small shop, a very tiny games room and i mean tiny, which is a good thing (pool table, table tennis and about 3 video games)

The family that own it are excellent and very helpfull and are very chatty when doing the rounds to make sure evrything is ok.

We have met some lovely people / famlies on this site always very pleasent and all the kids are pleasent, (no drunken or loud music or rowdiness on this site) If there was we would not entertain it

My wife is not a camping person but evan my wife likes camping here, as long as the weather is nice, and in our bigger family tent. It is a real chill out time for her.

My wife and me were pondering over a tourer but its just the money situation at the moment, when we can afford one this site is where we would put it.

We live in Cadishead on the border of Warrinton / Salford

I work in Golborne and it takes me approx 20mins to get to this site from work.

It would not be far for you to travel from Preston (go down and have a look, think you would like what you see).

They have a web site if you need to look.

I am going to book it for the weekend before Easter (hope the weather will be nice).

Hope this helps

Simun

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

What about Queensland in Hambleton? It's nice & flat, quiet, but there's loads to do a short drive away. There are a number of reviews on campsite.
