Shanklin sea front is on the beach you will be able to park alongside also Sandown and Ventnor are on the sea front of course you have parking charges, dog's on the beaches in the summer are not allowed in this area don't know about Ryde, there are lots of places to explore on the Island my favourite (and I live here) is Godshill take a walk up to the Church or have your tea here, there is free parking in the village, there is the Roman Villa on the way to Brading to explore lots of country homes to see not just Osborne, lots to do in the day as for night times we don't go in for night club's if that's your thing we are stuck as some say in the 1950's like Marmite you either love the Island or Hate it.
Regards Iris
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I went for the first time a couple of years ago (hubby went when he was a child. We stayed at Appuldurcombe Gardens at Wroxall which is near Ventnor. We stayed for 2 weeks. We went back the following year in July for 10 nights and still managed to fill each day with things we hadn't done first time around and re-visiting some places.
It depends on what you want from a holiday and what you like doing ... there are some lovely beaches and coastline - we discovered Steephill Cove nr Ventnor on our 2nd visit. Shanklin is great for a wander including the Chine and there are several wildlife parks inc the Zoo. Ventnor Botanic Gardens are free but you do have to pay for parking. Also, if it hasn't changed, the car park is free at Puckpool Park, Seaview, Ryde. We parked up and then went for a walk after lunch in the cafe.
If you do decide to go - see if the campsite will book the ferry for you as it will usually cost you a bit less than if you book it yourself. We did this both times and went from Southampton with Red Funnel.

July: Dorset Volksfest + Wilksworth
August: Gloucestershire Vintage & Country Extravaganza

We have visited the island twice now with our tent. The first time we crossed the Solent with Red Funnel and got a deal which included five days stay at the lovely Whitefield Forest campsite. We loved it that much we extended our stay. We returned the following year this time sailing with Wightlink. The ferry cost us nothing as we used Tesco Clubcard vouchers.
There is loads to see and do on the island. We have two boys so there was endless places to visit. Would love to return when the kids are older as there are many things still on my list to still to see
Go, you will love it
