There are several different campsites at Brean Sands. They stretch one after the other all along the seafront road.
Holiday Resort Unity is the one with all the amusements, swimming pools etc. I have never stayed there but it looked quite an exciting place for families with kids.
Further along is Northam Farm and Warren Farm which also owns an adjoining campsite called Sunnyside. I have stayed at all 3 of these and found them very nice indeed although I tend to camp outside school holidays when it is quieter. All seem to have fishing lakes if you are into that.
Warren Farm and Sunnyside are more quiet than Unity and depending on what you want it might be an idea to stay at one of the quieter sites as you can still use the amusements at Unity without being right on top of them.
There are other sites in the area as well which I have not stayed on but I think all are pretty good sites.
Brean itself consists of about a 7 mile stretch of beach. There are nice sandhills with golden sands and on the seaward side of those a narrow stretch of soft sand before it turns into hard sand which cars can drive along. Beyond that it becomes very dangerous with mud and quicksands. This area has warning signs which are often ignored by the foolhardy to their cost.
Whenever I have been to Brean the tide (sea) has always been miles out but I gather it does come in sometimes and is then suitable for kids to paddle in. A climb to the top of Brean Down with a fort on the headland will certainly keep you fit and tire the kids out!
There are pubs and clubs for evening entertainment if that is your thing.
