Hi, we are looking for ideas for August 2014. We usually go to Cornwall to a very quiet site.

We have a large tent & like a site in a peaceful, picturesque location with good showers. We don't want a clubhouse or playground or other facilities.

We thought we would give North Yorks/The Lake District a go this year. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

You could try these -

North Yorks - Centenary Way at Filey, spacious pitches, quiet location and a pleasant walk down to the beach or into town, about 15-20 minutes away. Good clean facilities, there is a playground but it's away from the main part of the site. I've been there a few times and love it.

Serenity in the village of Hinderwell, about seven miles north of Whitby - peaceful site with views over fields, no playground, very few kids as it's mainly for adults, pub serving meals right across from the site entrance.

Where north Yorks meets Lancs meets Cumbria - High Laning in the village of Dent. Fab views and very picturesque village with cobbled streets, quaint shops and pubs, but be prepared to drive a fair distance from there to anywhere else as it's very much out in the sticks.

Lake District - Eskdale C & CC site at Boot. Lovely site in peaceful and picturesque countryside, quaint little village with three pubs serving food, miniature steam railway to Ravenglass just along the road and plenty of opportunities for walking.

I've been to all of these sites and liked them all, although it's a few years since I went to Dent so it may or may not be different now.

Have a look at BankTop Farm near Pickering.

Some of the cleanest toilets/showers I have seen.

Eskdale C & CC, Western Lakes - awesome, you can't fail to love it. More difficult to get to but very quiet part of the lakes, lovely well maintained site and great facilities.

Langdale National Trust site is lovely too, feels like it is in the middle of nowhere but a few good pubs within easy walk and awesome scenery. Nice facilities.

Bainbridge Ings, Hawes. Lovely location on outskirts of a very pretty dales village. Nice camping field with pitches around the edge so feels very spacious, although the pitches themselves are not huge.
