We have been in a simalar situation.  We have enjoyed a few seasonal seasons on the east coast but the cost has just gone up and up. We idealy wanted a seasonali n Cleethorpes but just could not find one. Sites in York and Harrogate etc were out of our price range !

So we looked closer to home.  At the end of last year we  paid a deposit for a site in Church Laneham, Retford. Takes us about 45 minutes from Rotherham  It is a little out of your area range, but thought I would mention it as we are paying £1000 for the season, For the caravan ,awning, visiting grandchildren ( we have a six berth ) and our dog. 

There is nothing for the children as such, except a big play field, but it is right on the River Trent. Great walks, Aprox 8 miles from Retford town, 11 to Lincoln . Great pub in the village. If you would like anymore info please let me know

There is 2 camp/touring sites in the village. Both more or less the same seasonal price but the first was just for 2 people in a caravan and electric to pay for.  ( However you could pay for extra pppn) Also was just for tents and tourers, allon grass. They have a website with a lot of info. Ours is 5 minutes down the road.

Lots of people use both sites for the Waddington Air show

We chose the 2nd one as we often have more than 2 people. We are actualy sited on one of the empty static caravan plots, as are other new seasonal caravans . Initially they were hoping to open a new part for seasonal but did not get the work done over the winter. ( I did have some slight concerns, but " the Natives " were friendly lol)

We have been for the weekend and have met a few other people. Most have boats, apparently the boat club is in the village. They tell me it gets quite busy in the summer, jet ski's and water sking etc . The river really is only a stonesthrow.

 We also had a "take away " from the village pub, which was nice , proper chicken and real beef burgers with salad ,coleslaw and chips ....x2 for £12 5-7pm  The pub also has music weekends etc, is fishermen/biker/dog friendly, but quite small. The guy who owns Trentfield  alsoowns the pub. We are looking forward to the carvery one sunday.

BTW we are paying for our electric , at the end of the season, as we are ,so to speak on a serviced plot,it is metered , but the other owners say its reasonable.
