Hi all
Trying to find a nice beach front site in the south west between Dorset and North Cornwall , can t face the drive further SW.

My problem is we have a dog and so many beaches won't let them on in august.

I also want golden sand for my kids and shallow safe swimming.

We where in studland last year which is superb but you have to drive to it .

Any ideas

Cheers

John

Seadown in Charmouth
Seadown

We didn't like it but lots do. It fronts the beach.

A couple of others in Charmouth are walking distance from the beach. Unusually for the Chesil beach area Charmouth has beach and river swimming and sandy beach. As far as I can recall parts of the beach are open to dogs.

Dont know about beach front site, but these two websites will help with your days out with the dogs.
Cornwall beaches
Doggie pubs
Perannporth ( if you want to go that far down) has a great beach where you can take your dogs all year round.

Hi
I love peranporth but 6 foot breakers full of surfers isn't ideal with a 2 year old

There must be one sandy beach that let's dogs on somewhere.

Thanks anyway.

John

Dogs on Beaches Somerset

I don't know if Somerset is any good to you but the above link might help. I note that Sand Bay allows dogs all year round and I believe there are campsites at that location (do a campsite search)

In August dogs were on Perranporth beach, Cornwall (well behaved ones). We stayed at Tollgate Farm, Perranporth. While you can walk to the beach it is a good 30 mins plus over dues and the golf course to get there. We did this with our 3, 1 of which was in a McLaren style pushchair. It is a lot longer walk back uphill.

However the reason we went there was also the campsite which was recommended by some caring peeps on here. It has a 'feed the animals' at 10am every day and you even get to hold a guinea pig or rabbit on your lap. This is free and on site beside the play area! It is a family run site with a friendly feel - though most people tend to surf from here.

Perranporth beach is very flat and the 1 1/2 year old like to play in the very shallow water (who am I kidding - he liked to splash on the shallow stream which came down the side of the beach. He also liked rock pooling but was a bit short and it was more like swimming!!

Much better (as in closer to the beach) is a Haven or Haven style place which has it's own access to the beach down a very long steep slope (we know as we walked 1/2 mile along the beach and back up this path and then followed the car signs to the exit and it is very uphill). It is much closer to the beach and has entertainment etc. as the big sites tend to have - Not our cup of tea but may be yours.

Difficult as so many beaches down here ban dogs until end of October.  If you want to avoid surfers then maybe go for South Cornwall or South Devon instead of North.

Not many beach front sites I can think of that front onto a dog friendly beach.

North Devon beaches that allow dogs in certain areas all Summer would be - Putsborough, Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and Westward Ho!  But sites would be a drive from the beach (North Morte Farm & Warcombe Farm campsites come to mind)

South Devon is a little bit more dog friendly - there is a C & CC site just across the road from the beach Slapton Sands  - Slapton allows dogs all year and down the road at Bee Sands & Hallsands allow all year also.  Be aware that these beaches are shingle type but the water is lovely and crystal clear. EDIT: I have just noticed from your original post you want sand so ignore Slapton suggestions.

Down the road past Salcombe dogs are allowed at Hope Cove (on leads) Thurlestone and Bigbury on Sea (on leads in certain areas) and these are sandy beaches.  Can't think of any sea front sites but Bolberry House campsite is a nice basic site near those beaches.

Tollgate Farm as mentioned is very dog friendly and popular with families (doubt you'll get in now for school hols) but I know how busy the sea can be with surfers.

Don't know whether you've considered Torbay/Teignmouth/Dawlish areas?  These offer sandy beaches and safe swimming but can't think of any beach front sites.

Your best bet is to jot down where you fancy with dog friendly beaches and search for your campsite from there!
