Hi, thanks in advance for any replies. I have been trawling through the reviews of campsites and they are great, but as a novice with a young child(3), I wondered if I could request some specific recommendations for our first camping trip, which will be a short stay. We live in Central Scotland(west Lothian) so are looking for a site no further within 70 miles, sheltered pitches(will make pitching a little kinder), and with a play park. We are not looking for all singing and dancing, we can make our own entertainment as it will be a short stay.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

Hi
I am not local by any stretch of the imagination but....
I would recommend Crossburn at Peebles. Can't help with prices but know it is a very good and friendly site - and with a Tesco not too far away, etc. We have not been there for a few years mind.

Welcome to ukcampsite and congrats on your 1st post

Try Balgair Castle at Fintry, not far from Stirling.

They have a good children's play area, a small outdoor heated pool and a bar that serves meals to eat-in or take back to your tent / caravan.

Thanks for replying, I have Balgair ear marked for a future visit. We opted for Belhaven(Dunbar), which we enjoyed and have now reviewed, perhaps a little too long winded for publish right enough. Keep up the good work all, lets give back in reviews and post replies, as much as we get out.

There are a few good sites within your specified distance.
Balgair castle is good but there is a different atmosphere there depending on time of year. We went once in April last year and loved it, then went in July and left early due to the fact that it was really busy and loud with lots of really drunk people banging on our caravan.
The gart or Keltie bridge in Callander are really good.
A really good site would be Trossachs holiday park near aberfoyle. It is in a fantastic location and the facilities are excellent. A nice touch if you are new to pitching up is that when you arrive they walk you to your pitch, unhook your van and put it on the pitch for you. They also take your van off the pitch to make it easy for you when you go. There is no pub or pool on this site which suits us as it seems to be a little more peaceful.
Wherever you choose I'm sure you will have a fantastic time.
