We have stopped at Ord House at Berwick, and the CC site at River Breamish. Both nice sites.
Lots to do (assuming you dont want amusements etc).
Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle (Harry Potter), Kielder Water, Lindisfarne, Trip to the Farne Islands, the brilliant Cragside House NT property, and miles of fabulous beaches.
And the beer is acceptable too.

We are going there in June, stopping at a CL near Alnwick. Not going to Alnwick castle, not our thing, but will go to Cragside and to Chllingham Castle to see the wild white cattle. Will also go to any other National Trust/ English Heritage properties as we are members of both. Hoping for some decent weather for the beaches.
Then we are going to Hexham to see the Hadrian's Wall things and use the bus for free as we are 60+.

Highburn House, Wooler is a favourite of ours. Reasonably priced, immaculate facilities and the town is a 10 minute walk for anything you could want.

Beer acceptable!! More than acceptable - perfect. Forget the lager stuff, drink the real stuff. You are in the home of Newcastle Brown after all - and then we have Newccastle Amber, Double Maxim / Maximus etc etc. And then you have the countryside as mentioned above. The south end of the area is dominated by Hadrians Wall of course. Beaches north of Newbiggin are wonderful providing the weather is not being dominated by a high sitting just off the coast - when you will 'benefit' from the sea frets (fog) Berwick is worth a visit - history between Scotland and England (it is currently English) and a Lowry painting town.
Wark, Amble, Rothbury, Otterburn are all worth a visit. Newcastle is an easy hop if you want the big city Enjoy it - but don't tell anyone else you did. We don't want everyone coming - they will only spoil it.

How dare you mention the "L" word when discussing drink?? What transgression is needed to get banned on this forum?
I live in the land of micro breweries, usually much better than the mass-produced pap being sold in pubs by the big chains.

My humble apologies JuanHuNose The word just slipped out Micro is THE word Amazing how it has come back into fashion As a Biology student many pints ago my dissertaion was related to the commercial uses of yeast (indeed only one use) and to add to my delight the external examiner was a brewer like myself We spent twenty minutes sampling my wares Guess what? I passed. Sadly my days of brewing ended a few years ago. Breweries can be found in Wylam Hexham Alnwick Bedlington to name but a few
