Ok this will be our first year camping, we have been out and bought everything we think we need.
We are booked into the golden grove caravan park in Essex near Braintree for this weekend as our first camping adventure.
We want to go down tot the south west for our summer break and have been looking at adult only, dog friendly, campfire allowed campsites down that way. I have found three, Bramble Hill camping in Somerset, Acorn farm park in Devon, and The Meadows campsite in Cornwall.
My question is would visiting all 3 campsites in 2 weeks be advised, and what is there that are must sees in the areas we are going?
Also is there any advice you would give for planning your first big camping holiday or things we have probably forgotten?

Hi.
Definitely recommend visiting at least 2 campsites in 2 weeks. Two weeks, in my opinion is too long to be on one site! It's good to move and air the tent. You'll get better and faster at pitching the more you do it. The switch over days will be busy, though, with packing-up and then driving and then setting up again so you kind of miss a day doing this in a way. Will this work well with the dog?
After your 'practise' weekend camp, you'll have a better idea of how it all works and what you'll need for your longer holiday.
Enjoy!
Is the meadows campsite in or near pentewan just outside st Austell
------------- April Peak District Beech Croft Farm
May Peak District Duke of York
May Holland Delfse Hout
June Cotton Arms Nantwich
july/aug Cornwall Pentewan Sands
And quite a few local weekenders
Plenty to see down here. The campsite near Pentewan - dogs are not allowed on the beach but there is a lovely walk that stretches along the river (all off road and safe) through woodland. Makes a lovely walk and the pub in Pentewan has a beer garden which allows dogs.
Lovely pub within 5 minutes drive of campsite(Polgooth Arms) - fab pub grub.
Lobbs Farm Shop on the road to Gorran Haven (up over the hill from Pentewan) at Heligan sells BBQ meat packs and local cider, lots of yummy stuff.
Mevagissey is great for a wander, I would recommend parking in the outer car park and walk in as streets very narrow. Lots of pasty shops/ice cream parlours right on the harbour.
Local beaches which are favourites - Caerhayes (also known as Porthluney) is a short drive (narrow lanes, lots of pheasants) and Gorran Haven (great when the tide is out).

Forgot to add that Acorn Farm campsite is very rural, out in the sticks. Ideal if you want tranquility in a non touristy area - not trying to put you off!
Bramble Hill is nearest to me. Don't know it but the attractions they list on their UKCS listing are
Clarks Village within 1 mile. (Factory disposals type shopping centre)
Somerset Levels for bird watching.
Local pub within 200 yards of site.
Glastonbury Tor and Abbey within 3 miles.
Cheddar Caves and Wookey Hole within 12 miles.
Sainsburys 2 miles away open 7 days a week.
Street offers both indoor and outdoor pools within 1 mile.
Willows and Wetlands Centre
Mulchelney Pottery & John Leach Gallery within 9 miles
They have not mentioned Wells and the cathedral. Smallest city in England. Longleat is also only about 45 minutes.

I also used Golden Grove for my first trip away last year. It's a lovely little site, but only has 1 toilet and no showers. Very flat with clearly marked pitches looking out over a large grassed area of a field.
