Hi - We are off to Scotland at end of June and need a stop-over for one night between Penrith-Carlisle on the way up from Yorkshire (travelling via A1/A66). Any ideas? Thanks Jan

Toured Scotland in April and had our first stop at the c.and c.c. site at Troutbeck.Nice site with friendly staff and spotless facilities. Travelled on to Perth,Rosemarkie,Millarochy and finally Kendal.Great holiday only marred by all the rubbish in the Scottish laybys and the poor state of the A 82.We live in Doncaster.
Hi - we have stayed on the Troutbeck Site before on a return trip from Scotland. We are planning to try to find a Site just off the M6 as we are setting off from Penistone (South Yorks) on the Friday afternoon! We are booked in at Culzean Castle CC Site in Ayrshire (combining a Holiday and visits to my family near Glasgow). We are staying over two nights on the way home at a little CL Site just outside of Appleby. Don't know where you have visited previously in Scotland but the west coast is very beautiful. We travelled up to Gairloch several years ago - stunning! Totally agree about the rubbish in lay-bys, unfortunately this is not confined to Scotland. Generally the further away we can get from Takeaways & Tesco's - the better. Happy Holidays to you wherever you travel. Jan
Hi Bofs - I've just looked at that Site - only downside is lack of Toilets. Could manage with our own Shower but we would prefer a Toilet is poss. Haven't discounted this one yet as it has nice reviews and it only for one night.
First tour in our motorhome. We chose the east coast because we have a friend who lives near Muir of ord.Rosemarie was absolutely stunning, the site, scenery and wildlife blew us away ! As you say the west side was very pretty but the stress of driving on pot holed roads from Inverness all the way to Loch Lomond was a big put off from any more trips on that side.As for litter,a stop at the side of Loch Ness really upset me. Here (miles from anywhere) some idiots have decided to create a landfill site. Tyres,a fridge, cooker, three piece suite and masses of black bags dumped down the slope of the loch.Other stops saw the usual rubbish that people discard so casualy.
Next big trip is to Cornwall in July, St Ives,Newquay and Weston super made.Happy travels to you and yours John

So glad to hear you enjoyed the Scottish scenery and wildlife (despite the other wild life that inhabits our lovely planet and leaves its litter behind). Enjoy your trip to Cornwall - we stayed in a lovely cottage near Lands End many years ago - beautiful. But, as I now call Yorkshire my home, I don't think there is anywhere more beautiful than the Yorkshire Dales. I absolutely love it! Happy travelling. Jan
