Have searched and searched for a website which lists the type of campsite you see when travelling around with a hand painted sign offering a pitch (with toilets and showers) in a field, saw a few last year in Cornwall at a bargain £6/night and wished i'd taken more details/ Sat Nav position etc, maybe its their very nature that the farmers/landowners don't advertise.
Can anyone help ?????

Sounds exactly like you're looking for a C&CC CS [certificated site] or a CC CL [certificated location, but means the same thing]. Try the UKCS map search and click the CL/CS box. Make sure you tick the EHU, toilet & shower boxes if you need them - not all these 5-unit sites have all of these. In theory, you're supposed to be a member of the relevant Club, in practice the site owners don't always want to see your Membership card or know your number. I'm in C&CC but used a CC CL by putting my C&CC membership number into the online booking form at the owner's suggestion. We've been in a large unmown field totally alone, which I think fits your description (the toilet was equally uncared for, but it was cheap so who cares).

Some don't have any of those!
They will, however, all have CDPs (Chemical Toilet Disposal Points.)
Apart from the club CS or CL type site the "farmers field" type site doesn't really exist any more. Unless affiliated to the clubs as CS/CL a site needs to be licensed and needs basic facilities - at least a disposal point.
One or two odd pitches in a field isn't going to be worth the hassle for farmers. They have better things to do with their fields and probably don't want to risk litter harmful to livestock and potential traveller types.

You will be free as a bird here no frills no regimented layout and you would probably be the only ones there. It's lovely even though a little far from you, it also has a shower now. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=10074
