Hello everyone,

I would love to go to Centre Parcs but the price in school holidays is too much and I cannot bring myself to pay it when I know I can go away on a camping break in the caravan much more cheaply. So...got me thinking.....are there any camp sites out there like center parcs with the cycling, swimming and cool activities where you can camp?.

Thanks :)

Clippesby Hall in Norfolk reminded me of Center Parcs, mainly because of the pine forest and lodges that were there. It has a swimming pool (nothing as grand as center parcs), cycle hire and tennis courts.

At the other extreme, various Haven (and similar) holiday sites offer the water slides, crazy golf, etc. type of activities.

I guess you may need to specify what activities that you would like to do. Center Parcs offer such a range of activities from quad biking to pottery, that it would help to narrow your search if you know the type of activity that you would like on site/nearby.

Whitmead Forest Park in the Forest of Dean. Swimming pool and childrens outdoor activities in site (in school holidays), cycling etc off site. Set in the woods. Love it!

Hi - I second the shout up for Whitemead Forrest Park - Like centre parks but not is perfect description.

If you work in the public sector or are related to someone who is you can get very good discount via the CSMA

I also think Sandy balls is closest, as I've searched for a CP style place before, for older kids activity wise there's a place on river dart which would be fab if you get the weather to really use it, I'm sure someone else can tell you name of it.

Looked at Sandy Balls as it is fairly close to me (but expensive) however it only does camping in the summer hols. Unless you like to have your groundsheet on gravel, and then you can camp all year!!!

Yes, I have now seen you are in a caravan -oops.

Woolacombe bay holiday park, golden coast one, it's a lot more butlins than centre parks but has activity centre there, eg surf simulator, high ropes etc for kids, pottery making, crazy golf, a bus that takes you to other parks but not cycling or woods.

Another vote for Kelling Heath. They've just put a heater in the free outdoor pool so the kids had a lot of fun in it at the weekend.

Not an obvious choice but Riverview in Plymouth / Plymton is next to the dry ski slope and toboggan centre. You have an Olympic pool in town plus the aquarium etc. Great beaches within 30 minutes drive and Dartmoor just up the road. I think they ddo local bike hire too.

I guess with Centre Parks you pay for the convenience of having all these things to hand, easily accessible on one site. However, in reality there are loads of campsites in the UK which are near good cycle tracks, swimming pools and adventurous outdoor activities - they are just maybe not so obviously presented to you on a plate! A bit of research in a chosen area will probably reveal all these things.

For example the Lake District is great for stuff like that; watersports, boating, cycle tracks, walking, Go Ape...
