OH goes for more bowel resection surgery mid July (Crohns), so we're moving our July holidays to the end of October.

Ok, she'll be out of action for a few weeks / months, but we're totally stuck for where to go then....

We would like you's to recommend a site that's flat, kid & dog friendly, sheltered and quiet. A tall order, but it's mainly for her R&R.

Oh, and about 3 hrs from Newcastle upon Tyne...

Just going round in circles on the search facility ATM.

Gibson Park C.C. site in Melrose in the Scottish Borders.
Its approx 70 mls from Newcastle and the site is on the flat with very good facilities.
Decent wifi connection. Big park at the entrance for the kids.

The town is a 2 min walk with a good selection of pubs, shops and eating places.
Lots to do in the surrounding area.

She's just asked....

'It'll be getting cold up there then won't it??'

So I guess a southerly direction would be better....

We can still get some decent weather in October up hear, well decent for us Scots

Your wife is right though, for a bit of R+R after her op heading South makes sense. Wishing her a speedy recovery, my wife suffers from crohns.

To be honest I don't think anywhere is going to be "warm" at the end of Oct/beg Nov unless you strike lucky. Even heading south for 3 hours won't necessarily do it, so I would have plan(a) and plan(b) and go the way the best weather is forecast. Being on a site that has a good shower block, preferably heated, and near cities/towns for those rainy days. Caravan Club sites are good at that time of year or maybe don't go camping but go to somewhere like a Centre Parks site which will satisfy all needs might be best.
Which ever way you choose, best wishes to one and all and a speedy recovery.

How about Boroughbridge c&cc site, just down the road from you, flat, nice riverside walks, town close by, quiet, good places to eat nearby, you could easily visit York, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Masham, Thirsk, Otley, Ilkley, these are all within an hours drive some a lot less.
