Hello All

Not been on here for a while and not been camping ( in this country ) for longer than that.

A small group of friends and I are looking to go away for a long weekend. After broswing around for a while and also having a taste of what camping abroad is like abroad I'm left out of ideas and a little gutted.

See I want somewhere that is not a standard, cater for all, these are the rules kind of place. Somewhere that we can just go and be in the woods or on a mountain or by the water without all this designated pitch rubbish. The thing is even that is now a selling point with back to the basics and glam camping spots everywhere for crazy prices.

We want somewhere that we can just be. Somewhere that we can stay up and talk all night if we wish, somewhere we can wander around if we wish, somewhere we can listen to music and dance like idiots if we wish. Do these places exist in this country? (more specifically in Wales)

Is there national parks like you see in the US where you can just go and set up where you want for a few days?

Any info would be great, feeling a bit restricted at the mo and missing the freedom of my travel camping :(

shell island has places down in the dunes that are far enough away from the general populous that you could probably get away with being up all night,, but sound does travel after dark , so you couldnt have a rave or anything

Okay, it's not Wales, but if you're desperate enough, how about wild camping in Scotland?

Why not find an area you would like and approach the farmer with a few ponds in your hand.

Google Glyn Y Mul farm. It's quite wild but could be what you're looking for...

Near Cheddar, somerset

new owners have developed the field and cafe, hardly any campers so should not be a problem with staying up all night if checked out with owners, it's just acres of fields.

Hey All,

Thanks for all your help with finding somewhere. We just want to find somewhere we can truly relax. I get really anxious and being somewhere with so many rules means i just cant relax. We won't be obnoxious and up all night with music blaring but I at least want to be able to put some on without everyone instantly twitching their fly nets to have a nose haha.

Will check out the suggestions now and so what is about. I just want some good old fashioned camping.

Field + Friends + BBQ + Conversation till the early hours   :)

Hi, if you fancy coming up to Co Durham, Gallow Hills Stables is just what you're looking for. Large sloping field and tap, toilet/shower at farmhouse. with beautiful views over Teasdale
Take A66 cross country from Penrith, Cumbria, to Scotch Corner. Site is just off this road, 12 west of Scotch Corner. The owner supplies fire pits, and our family just sang and laughed and had a great time. No set pitches, just space peace, and our beautiful countryside
