We have just returned from a very nice holiday in East Anglia, and I thought I'd share a thought. We went to a variety of sites from basic CL's, to big club sites and as I sat and looked around it came to me that although the sites and pitches are the same size there are many more caravans on the sites, it seems that the nice open spaces around the units has gone, and units are bring stuffed into pitches. Instead of just being pitched around grassy areas, caravans are being placed inside the circles as well. It made it very uncomfortable to sit outside as we felt we were looking into other people's space.
The CC site at Cromer was the worst.
We went to the CCC site at Sandringham and that was the opposite although busy, it was spacious with large grassy areas. Ferry Meadows was nice although half empty, but looking at the pegs if it had been full, moving a large unit on and off would have been difficult.
What do others think about the draconian system of o/side rear to peg, I personally find it very boring to look at rows and rows of caravans packed in like sardines with everyone the same. I know we are all supposed to like talking with the neighbours, but hearing him/her snoring and chatter in the night isn't really our scene.
I know we can use small sites but we do have to do the washing sometimes!!

This is why we cancelled both our CC and C & CC memberships. We are now very choosy about where we go - we tend to go for basic, rural, less popular sites with few reviews and few pitches. Last weekend we had a lovely time in Cornwall on a site with 12 pitches that only had one other person on it.
I think the CC in particular are cramming them in and ignoring their distance rules on some sites. Their site down at Hayle is the worst site we have ever been to - not enough room to put up an awning, tether dogs or even park cars on a lot of their pitches.
I find nothing enjoyable at all in looking at rows and rows of caravans out my window.

I don't like being crammed it either and I always read reviews on here if it's mentioned that the pitches are small or guy ropes crossing I will not be there! The most room we have ever had was a forest fields where they leave empty pitches so you don't feel crammed in. Deers glade is great too as they have hedges to separate pitches , I love a chat with my neighbours till the cows come home but do like my own space too. We went to a campsite in Ripley and their rows of caravans with only space to park your car next to your unit no where to sit and enjoy the view unless you wanted to look at the caravan in front or behind you. Not for me.

That was one thing I didn't like about caravanning, especially on hard standings, you might as well camp in a traders parking lot!

GCMS2012 - Google maps might have been your friend 8 years ago, but it is so outdated now that all our parks look completely different. Bing maps is more up to date, but still a few years old.
