hi all, we have decided to try the lake district tent camping in a couple of weeks before our usual wales route, do you guys have any sites you can recommend ? we never been so all new to us....
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
When we used to take the tent (3 years since) we used to go to Hillcroft Park campsite at Pooley Bridge. It was easy to get to, walking distance to village and the shore edge of Ullswater for activities. Also some nice walks directly from site. Lovely little pub at Howtown as well as pier for steamer back to Pooley Bridge.

------------- I went to the top of the mountain...and looked over the other side!
Eskdale C & CC site is a nice site in a lovely area with fab views, just a few minutes walk to a couple of pubs serving meals and the small-gauge railway to Ravenglass just along the road - well worth a ride on a nice day.

Second vote for Eskdale C&CC site. Lovely site and location. As Tigermouse says short walk to a couple of nice pubs and some nice walks from the site.
Being on the Western side of the lakes its much quieter than the eastern lakes. Next valley is Wastwater which has been voted the most picturesque in the Lakes.
You can get there via the coast road but also via Hardknot Pass (if you like a bit of a hair raising journey).
Couple of photos for the OP to help decide (photo is often worth a thousand words as they say).
WOW!JandJstott that look amazing! Will be trying that at some point no doubt!!
We have camped on the Easter side of Windermere at both The Quiet Site and Parkcliffe. Both have excellent facilities including bars and at TQS there is a kids play barn and huge play field with equipment built into the hill. Don't be put off though, it is in a sheltered field away at the very bottom of the site.
Both are very easily reached, and if you are after tourist spots on Windermere (Bowness, Lakeside aquariam and steam train, Langdale, Ambleside etc. it is perfect.
Can recommned a fair few things to do if you like the outdoors. What sort of things do you like to do?

Hoathwait campsite (national trust)
Hoathwait trover ( right on lake coniston ) coniston is about 2 miles away on lovely off road tracks to walk or bike on . The site itself is very basic, toilets , showers and pot wash thats about it . I paid £22 for two night for myself and my son that included a £5 booking fee . Oh and it's a lovely quiet site to .
Take a look on here at section, Trips and photos and Sue999 photos of site in West Lakes, called Church Stiles ( think that's the name) anyway only been on here few days so you'll find it. The area is stunning, and site seems great. Wish it was bit closer for us, but long way for weekends.
