Goodness! a 3 hour drive from St Andrews gets you to Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway, the English Border, probably up to Aberdeen, maybe as far west as the Argyll seaboard. That's a HUGE area with hunners of sites. St Andrews itself has the most fabulous beach and is a lovely town with lots of atmosphere and excellent restaurants (as you'd expect in an up-market University town). There are plenty of sites very close to the town centre, some with pools. Massive forest (and equally massive beach) not far at Tentsmuir. Unless you live there anyway, simon639? you haven't put your location in your profile. As Hacksaw Bob says, use the map search and tick on the things you want, or use the listings like "sites by a beach".
To answer the question specifically, loch + canoes + beach + bar + walking sounds like Loch Ken in Dumfries & Galloway. Or Loch Morlich near Aviemore.
