Both the Caravan Club and Caravan and Camping Club have these small sites. The cl owner offers his land to either club and works under their umbrella for the purpose of caravanners/campers to pitch on his field. By using this system he is exempt from local planning application rules.
The cl system offers various types of location at a smaller cost than that of the large commercial sites. They are more informal and can range from just a small field with water tap and toilet emptying facilities to more grander establishments.
You have found the link to the Caravan Club website. Can I suggest you look at some in your area and go and have a look at them.
I think it's horses for courses really.
It depends what you like.
CLs are small sites, no more than 5 vans. A CS can have 5 vans plus 10 tents (I think). They will have water and an ELSAN point, and many have a toilet and shower and washing up place and some electric.
They won't have club houses, bars, entertainment etc etc.
Personally I much prefer the smaller CS sites, but I can equally see why they wouldn't be for everyone.

I have been on Caravan Club CLs that have far more than 5 pitches for caravans and motorhomes. One I was on has 10 hardstanding pitches and another I have been on this week has 19 pitches altogether but 5 of them are at the top of the site with a hedge across to divide them off from the rest of the site. You still use all the same facilities though.
Makes a bit of a mockery of the CL/CS system if you ask me.
Hi
We use CLs a lot and are member of both clubs. Most only have 5 pitches and some even have all service pitches. It depends what you want but you will get good value on a CL. Here are some we use in this area as I notice your not far from us:-
Bryning - Wrea Green near St Annes, Blackpool (lovely site all service pitches) Caravan club
waterside Lodge - Southport - on the coast road its in the grounds of the Scouting association - has a small shower and toilet block - great location but always fully booked! C&cc
Puddle Cottage - near Blackpool (CC)
Theres loads more, its a cse of trying them and you will have your favourites. Some are near pubs or even in the grounds of a pub, some have nothing just quiet location. Average prices £12 - 17 a night with EHU. For us its worth being members of the club for the CLs.
We also use CLs/CSs almost exclusively and have to say that price is no indication of quality. We have just returned from a CL in Pembrokeshire, £9 per night and 7 nights for the price of 6, has a loo and washbasin (cold water only), 2 miles from the nearest beach and 4 miles from Haverfordwest.
On our previous trip we stayed at a CL near Warrington which was £14 per night and rubbish, uncut grass, poor water and CWD, and the owner wasn't even there. Glowing reviews on the Caravan Club website, not so glowing from me on here.
