Hi, I've recently purchased a old campsite nearly 2 acres of lovely flat grass surround by hedges with private rd access next door to a country pub, perfect you'd think. But I've been having problems trying to get an exemption certificate. I applied to the camping and caravan club but was declined because the previous owner the country lodge next door still uses them to advertise, so then i tried the caravan club but was declined because i don't live onsite.. is their any other organisations i could try ?

Hi,

Can I ask you why the Club next door uses YOUR CAMPSITE to advertise their premises.
As I read it the campsite is yours and not your neighbours.
It is hardly your fault if someone else is advertising your facilities.
I am aware that the C and CC have taken a very hard line approach to sites advertising anywhere other than through them (the C and CC).
You should approach them and point out to them that the advertising is not of your doing. I would also send a strongly worded letter to your neighbour informing them to desist their unauthorised use of your premises as it is causing a restriction on your trade.

In addition to the above 'rant' (sorry) please find below a link to various organistions that are "Exempt Organisations for the purpose of appling for a CL for camping. The second link is for Exempt Organisations for the purpose of Caravanning. Good Luck!!!

If you write/email the Head Office in Brighton they will pass your details on to the person who deals with it.

As far as im aware, there are quite a few CLs where the owner does not live on site. If you take a look through the handbook, they are often stated as 'site caravan, owner will call later'

We use the CL web of sites for the majority of our caravanning needs, and two of our regulaar favourite sites have owners who turn up to collect fees from their homes a couple of miles away, one of those lives on an entirely different farm to where he runs the CL, which is on land owned by his parents, but they are retired and live in a cottage in the village, so no owner in occupation of the old converted farm buildings which are now let to private tenants as dwellings.

Hi sorry no he advertises his own site, he still has a small caravan site I only bought his camping field, with his permission to still use it as a campsite.

Yeah their is, but they said this was a old rule which they no longer allow, when the site changes ownership.

The next door neighbour is advertising HIS SITE.
You are asking for YOUR SITE to be a CL.
Somehow the C&CC seem to have got their wires crossed and are denying you a Cert because of this.

You have to to assert to them that in no way, anyhow, under any circumstances are the two businesses linked and there is no reasonable, understandable reason why you should not have a Cert.

I suppose what I am saying is that you have to get hold of the Club again, explain to them by any means possible, that they have got the wrong end of the stick.
It may assist if you produce to them some legal paper that shows that the two entities are now seperate.

It could be that they are basing their decision on historic papers. You have to show them that those papers are exactly that, HISTORIC!!!

Sorry, but you are wrong.
The CSMA have their own Exemption Certificate, and their own CL's. There is no connection with any other Club.
In fact we do not allow any of our CL's to be listed by any other Club.
