Have been thinking of going to Shell Island next August with our Grand-children and my sister an her two children.
I read that they do not take caravans but do they take Folding Campers....
I read some reviews and there have been reviews for a Trailer Tent and a Folding Camper but all from 2010ish.
I have emailed the site but no reply but they are closed until March so maybe no reply until then.....
Has anyone been there in a Folding Camper recently?

I'd phone them, emails can be ignored, but I think you're good to go. You're right, their website leaflet talks of Tents and Campers, but the FAQs says they do allow Motorhomes [which legally are Motor Caravans] and Campervans. The C&CC website says "There are many advantages and a few disadvantages to trailer tents and folding campers compared with other forms of camping. These include: They are acceptable on many campsites where caravans are not permitted."
I was there last year and there were trailer tents, not sure how much different a folding camper is.
They where originally only licenced for tents (inc. trailer tents), this has now been extended to motorhomes, I think it is just caravans that they can't take now.
Hi Jan, we went there a couple of years ago, bit of advice, try not to pitch up too near the main building as they allow groups of lads and girls so then they leave the car at night to go back to there tents they can be quite loud in the early hours, also when we went the toilets where pretty poor and the portals in the fields even worse, I advise you read as many reviews ad poss before booking

We stay well out in the dunes, loads of space hit and miss with noise but whereas more noise is acceptable at Shell Isle if someone is really noisy they sort it out. We drive to main loos during the day, which are tired but clean and use a porta potti at night. I do think that it's about time Shell Isle invested a bit in their facilities as it's not as cheap as chips nowadays to stay there but for uniqueness you just can't beat it!
