Hi there

Thinking of camping again this year but moving away from our usual site in Cornwall (Trevornick).

Looking for a site in the Isle of Wight or in Dorset. Have been to Dorset but not since being a child myself, never been to the IoW.

I am looking for a site that isn't a Park Resorts/Haven type site as I prefer to be in a static on those type of sites.

After a nice, clean site with flat, grassy hookup pitches. Would like a nice sea-view site but if the site isn't too far from the coast I can cope with it not being sea-view.

Has to have clean showers and toilets that aren't a million miles away from the tent pitch (3 small kids), and ideally will have a playground, shop, bar on site.

I have used the site search as I always do, and skimmed reviews. I just wondered if any of you had recommendations etc?

Hoping to go for a short break so would like it close to good things to do with the kids/days out.

Thanks x

No sea view or bar, but I think Norden Farm ticks your other boxes.

I'd vote for Norden Farm too. A great site in a great Location but in Dorset you are spoilt for choice really with Bournemouth, Swanage, Weymouth, Charmouth, Lyme Regis. All great resorts in their own very different ways.

I have done IOW in the past and whilst I have nothing negative to say about the Island I personally don' think it offers me enough to justify the messing about with the ferry.

I personally wouldnt add the hideous price of a ferry to the IoW when there are so many lovely areas in Dorset. We live in Dorset and love camping not so far away in places such as Weymouth and Swanage.
We enjoyed East Fleet Farm last year and friends often go to Ulwel Cottage in Swanage. We also love Haycraft near Corfe Castle but not so good for the kids.
Bournemouth has the best beaches, but there aren't so many campsites near the beaches.

It depends on what you are looking for but I have to agree that Dorset has a lot more to offer than the Isle of Wight. When we went to the Isle of Wight we spent ages one day looking for a chippy which was like trying to find a needle in a haystack and when we did eventually find one in Ryde the chips were greasy and horrible. I also wanted a shellfish stall to buy some whelks and after a long week of searching we found just one in Yarmouth but they were stale and rubbery and not fresh at all. Personally the IOW doesn't cater for holiday makers like me so my choice would be Dorset. I have actually looked at the campsite link that 'Hacksaw Bob' provided and it looks quite inviting as the tarrif looks competitive that it may be a possible destination for us this year.

I live in Hampshire but wouldn't go camping in the I.O.W as the ferry fares make it too expensive.

Dorset is my favourite area. Golden Cap campsite is practically on the beach and has a pub overlooking the beach. Durdle Door Campsite has it's own bar and is on the cliff top a short walk from the beach. There are other campsites all along the coast but I can't think of any others at the moment which are that close to the beach apart from Haven types.

If you don't mind a drive, a bus, or a 3 mile walk to the coast I can recommend Tom's Field near Swanage. Both Weymouth and Swanage have beautiful beaches ideal for kids...Weymouth having a few amusements on the beach but the campsites are all a little distance away.
