I had pretty much settled on the Isle of Wight for our Summer holiday when I realised that Cowes Week takes up the first 7 of our proposed 10 night stay.
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about how busy the Island is likely to be?
Been before in August and not had any problems with getting about or road congestion but it wasn't Cowes week then.
Our holidays are fixed so rather than change the dates and still go to the Isle of Wight we may have to start looking at areas all over again.

The first time we went to the IOW it was Cowes week for one of our two weeks. We were at Bembridge and had no problems except when we decided to go to Cowes for the day. It was packed and you could not get anywhere near the seafront without paying. Food and drink was also very expensive.

If you are not going to camp around the north of the island you should be OK. You might want to consider which ferry crossing to take to avoid Cowes altogether.

Thanks Ronni. we were planning on camping in the South and usually take the Southampton to Cowes crossing. Will rethink the crossing perhaps.

Hi looby woof. I live on the IOW in Cowes so anything you'd like to know, just ask. There's various places to stay in or near Cowes. The scenic area's of the island would be West Wight so freshwater area. It's all an area of natural outstanding beauty. Plenty of camping places in the West Wight and won't effect your stay because of Cowes week. You could get the ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth and head from there to Freshwater or whereever you need to go. Cowes Week does get very busy, yes (not so much in recent years) and especially the last friday of it (because of the fireworks) but it's not that bad on the other days.

Hi Danielvanc - that sounds really positive - Thankyou. We had a camping holiday on the island in 2013 and loved it. I feel the need to return to do some of the things we missed last time.
Not really looked at West Wight either so will look into that too. Thanks again
