pello, I agree with others, it's just not going to happen - for the time being. Campers all camp for different reasons (except for loving camping) and have different requirements (often changing throughout their camping lives) and budgets. Plus as Bernie and others say, there are other variables such as local authority charges and operating seasons to take into account.
Whilst I firmly believe that if a site says it provides certain facilities then those facilities should be available to all and clean and properly serviced but if sites want/need to charge for showers, then it's up to them.
With so many people now seeming to want almost home from home facilities, though, I can see a day when the more minimalist and possibly impoverished camper is forced out by the demands of the majority (or seeming majority) for as many mod cons as possible. Those mod cons have to be paid for by the site owner and the price they charge will reflect this. As someone pointed out on another thread, the CCC are adding more EHUs, hard-standing, not mention chalets and now glamping to their sites and the basic grass pitch - still a long way from the loos and showers - remains a muddy bog, but one we have to pay higher prices for.
Please note, I'm NOT having a go at those who want those things (and not the people who really need EHU for medical reasons) to make a great holiday for them. It's their holiday. However, it's also my break (and those of people like me), so we're down to freedom of choice.
