If you have children and want nice beaches then either Weymouth or Swanage. Weymouth has amusements on the beach whereas Swanage is less commercial. Both have lovely sandy beaches whereas most other places along the Dorset coast are shingle.
Unfortunately, campsites tend to be a car ride away from the main towns but there are a couple about 3 miles from Swanage if you check out the search map. I have been to many campsites in Dorset and they are all pretty good. My favourite at the moment is Toms Field at Langton Matravers, 3 miles from Swanage, which has sheltered pitches and may suit you. I don't think it has a play area for kids but there is a recreation ground a very short walk down the road in the village.
About 4 miles outside Weymouth are East Fleet, West Fleet, Bagwell Farm, and Sea Barn campsites...all nice sites suitable for families.
There are of course many other sites within a short drive of the coast.

Norden Farm is ideally situated for Village, beach & countryside and so much on site to amuse the children.
It is our favourite site.

Anywhere on the Purbecks in the Swanage region. Beautiful!
Some lovely sites around Weymouth too and child friendly.

We loved Sea barn farm. They have a great new wash block (see my review).
Sea views but not of the beach as at the back of The Fleet. Hedges round the EHU areas. Playpark. Order a Domino's pizza from Weymouth and leave straight away. Go and collect it and it will be just ready!
