I was wondering if any of you have toured the Scottish Islands or even just been to one. Looking for the white sands and also reasonably priced ferry, dog friendly ferry if possible as don't want to leave three wee chihuahuas in the car unless I could stay with them.

Inner and outer hebridean ferries are fine for travel. The prices are lower now than they were a few years ago which has led to a growth in visitor numbers. Ferries have areas set aside for dogs. You wouldn't be allowed to leave them in the car. Inner isles are usually accessed from Oban, which is a dream port to visit in its own right. You can also get the long haul ferry out to Barra and South Uist, too. The outer isles can be accessed via a number of ports including driving across Skye, and catching the ferry to Harris or NorthUist. Ullapool gets you to Lewis.
The beaches are fab and will make the trip worthwhile.

Re ferries, not quite accurate as RET hasn't been rolled out on all routes though it will be this October. Needless to say, the island I live on is one of the last to get RET!!!
Quite correct to say that Calmac ferries are dog friendly and have dog areas, just some boats are better than others - like the OP I would never leave my dog in the car.

As mentioned, ferries all seem to have their own individual rules and when we toured the Outer Hebrides, we didn't know what set up they had for dogs until we were actually onboard.
Also some sites have strict rules about the number of dogs you are allowed to have.
However, if it is the sandy beaches that is your criterion, then why go to the expense of ferries when a site at Arisaig and the Sands of Morar would more than fit your bill. And, being on the mainland, it is a lot cheaper to get to.
The Sands of Morar are just 4 miles from the sites at Arisaig and Arisaig village has an excellent village store, with Mallaig just a few miles north for more shops and restaurants.
