We're looking for somewhere we can go when we want a weekend away - usually at short notice. Somewhere within a hour of Teesside would be good, with a pub on site that does food (much prefer family owned places to big chains). Oh and lots of peace and quiet...

Any suggestions please.

We sometimes go to the CC site at Knaresborough. It's just off the A1 and really easy to get to on a Friday afternoon. It has a bar and bistro which is ok. There's a really nice pub in the nearby village which is walking distance.

The White Water site in Stockton would match your criteria. You could then spend a relaxing weekend wandering round the hugely expensive refurbished High Street trying to find a shop that was still open and trading....

Haven't been to Stockton town center for a long long while - closest we get is the occasional visit to Teesside Park.

We were visiting family in Staffordshire a couple of weeks back and found a lovely little country pub to stay at. Great food and cheap beer in the pub with a hard standing and electric hook up for the caravan. It'd be great to find something similar a little nearer to home for those quiet weekends away...

Somehow Stockton town center just doesn't appeal lol.

Oh I don't know, there are some quite lovely pound shops, charity shops and betting shops to be found between the boarded up shop fronts.

On a more serious note, what about the White Swan pub at Newton-on-Rawcliffe? This is just a few miles north of Pickering with a very quiet campsite (run by the pub) just behind the pub. Great for walking or just chilling out

Our favourites, Woodhouse Farm, at Winsksley nr Ripon, family run with small pub with food. Out in the sticks but lovely. Small play areas and fishing lakes, lots of room but peaceful. Another is Vale of Pickering, best site around I think, but no pub on site, but one just up the road in the village. And what about, think its called White Swan too, small site, just adjacent to A19, think its the Potto turn off, just before Northallerton. New toilet/shower block and pub, small field ,that's it.

Hmmm. The White Swan looks absolutely perfect. It's just a pity it's the wrong side of the North Yorks Moors. Still, we might just give it a try anyway, thanks.

The site by the A19 in Northalerton - I think you mean Swan House? - We've spent a couple of nights there and it was very nice but alas they don't do food :(

We will find that perfect weekend escape...

Went to Akebar park, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, at Easter it is under new management, with great improvements a lovely pub with great meals, Sunday lunch is well worth the money, new play park and the shower block has just been revamped with free showers and lovely and warm. Not forgetting the golf course.

We called in at Easter as we have a friend on there, it is very much improved from last time I saw it.

We were just along the road at Crakehall, Burtree Caravan Park, excellent little site. You also have Runswick Bay Caravan Park, Parklands Caravan Park at Northallerton and Brompton Caravan Park not far from A1/Catterick/Richmond.

We store at Seaton Carew so they are all within an hour of there and all good sites with good reviews on here.

Next bank hol we are trying Leekworth Caravan Park at Middle-in-Teesdale, probably just over the hour mark but looks good.

Hope that helps some.
Paul

I missed the bit about a pub on site!

None of these do (apart from Akebar) but most have pubs within a very short walk other than Brompton which has a takeaway on site and Parklands where Nothallerton is closest.

Hi again. Read that Swan House doing food now, even breakfast, Parklands is lovely. Owners wife has a café open all day until 6pm, then few nice pubs about, less that a mile into Northallerton
