With little ones, Matlock with its famous Bath and tourist attractions would be a good area to stay, you also have the cable cars and Gulivers Kingdom mini theme park to keep littleones amused for a day, and the 'seaside inland' atmosphere of the riverside walks through the bath itself, with all its traditional little gift shops, cafes and arcades.
Chatsworth and Bakewell are just a short ride up the A6, and there are plenty of sites around Carsington water which is a lovely family attraction in its own right, with mostly free playparks, walks and rides. The caravan club have their Carsington water site there, or you could try the Pudding room or Carsington views sites. The C&cc also have a site at Ashbourne with easy access onto the main road, and the little town of Wirksworth has a charm and history all of its own, with quaint little shops and a hand full of pubs and eateries, and the high peak trail provide several miles of safe disused railway track through beautiful Peak district scenery.
For a novice, unless you are confident at reversing your unit, then the CC Chatsworth site may not be the one for you due to the single track approach with passing places. Whilst a strict arrival and departure system is imposed by the Club, there is always that one chance that you may meet with traffic not abiding by this rule, and have no choice but to reverse up to a passing place in this long and narrow lane.
