Is it just me or are most camp sites spending far too much on the static caravan areas and letting the touring part go to ruin. This is especially true in ingoldmels.May bank holiday our electric went off four times in 2 days, once for over 4 hours. The emergency number went to answer phone and we ended up seeing the owners in the pub, where we had a few words. This happened last year on the same site but its quite big and divided into many sections of about 15 units, but its only our section that keeps going.Last year they took a huge fuse out and let it cool then put it back, this year they swapped the 80 amp fuse for a 120 amp.Needless to say although we like the site,it has put us off going again

Certainly true on the big coastal sites in France. The ratio of rentatents 'ecotents' & statics to touring pitches increases every yr, with the best pitches being used for the rental units.

Coast is always popular though, usually cheaper sites a few miles inland.

Perhaps the problem with site electrics is the increased use of power. You can always get an inverter if you really need tv or a generator, if you really like the site.

The thing is a lot of caravans / motorhome now have more and more electrical equipment fitted as standard. Then there are the extras people take that individually are nothing but add some of them together - phone chargers / TV / hairdryers / electric kettle / fridge-freezer / ipod charger - to name just a few.
There are some caravans that are only electric, so somewhere at some point this is bound to start creating problems.

The other factor is that because touring caravans are getting longer and longer each year, for the size of the touring base needed you may as well put a static base on. Saying that we choose to put super touring pitches on at Jasmine Park instead of statics, even though we have planning for statics. ;)

thanx for replies, but in my view if its a 10 amp site then it should take it.Or if you overload it takes your own trip out,not everyones. They have admitted they have a problem, but like most sites they are more bothered with the statics.I have never had this problem at any other site.I think i will stick with sandsend house at whitby.on sandsend road opp golf course, its fab.been going for 7 years now and always spot on.

I make it a point of trying not to stop on sites that have static caravans. The camping and touring area is always treated as a poor relation.

More and more of the CC&C sites seem to be putting statics or cabins where there used to be touring pitches. Irritates me greatly when the touring part of the site is fully booked so members can't stay there, while the statics are largely unoccupied. A great Forestry Commission campsite at Arrochar on Loch Long is now entirely log cabins, the nearby C&CC site was sold (or its lease expired) so there's now pretty much nowhere local to camp, yet it's a fantastic area for hill walkers & mountain bikers that bring money into the local economy.
