Campsites and Caravan Parks in the UK

Topic: No booking reservations for camping.

Hi...These sites that advertise no reservation needed.
IS it best to just turn up as early as possible and hope for a pitch, or phone up and ask how busy the site is.
This is for a tent with no electric hook up in the Lakes for bank holiday week end.
Any site recommendations welcome (2 adults + dog)

There is one down south - Burn bake and it has no booking except over the bank holiday weekends. Might be worth giving your site a ring.

Red Bank Farm, Bolton le Sands, has plenty of space in 2 camping fields, and I'm sure wouldn't need a reservation, though they do for the very few pitches with EHU. However I would always phone a site in the UK, perhaps the night before, so you are expected.

The dog would love it on the shore.

Do they say "no reservations" or "no reservations needed"?

If it is no reservations then it is first come first served, but if it says needed then it means that they may take reservations and you could turn up to find it fully booked.

Some sites, such as Glen Nevis, take bookings but always keep a number of pitches free for people turning up without a reservation.

Not sure about Lakes, but Middlewood Farm, Robin Hoods Bay, don't need to book, just turn up. Nice site.

The sites we are looking at say no reservations are taken for camping.
Is it better to check on the morning or turn up as early as possible.
Will take a look at Robin Hoods Bay site....Thanks

Hi again, Usually have to turn up around dinner time, or later with most sites, as pitches could be occupied until then, but a phone call maybe just to check. Another two to look at, Hooks Farm also Robin Hoods Bay, for tents you don't book, lovely sea views, and our favourite, Vale of Pickering, has main site then an extra huge tent field. Without electric usually space, but ring that one first. Good luck

i'd say it depends on the size of the camp site...if it's a small site with limited pitches then i'd call up ahead of time just to make sure there'd be a pitch available...however i probably wouldn't bother with a bigger site as long as i was assured by the campsite owner that typically it wasn't a busy time for them...
