We had a two night break in Aviemore last week and decided to take a detour on the way home and cross over to Ballater as its a site we have been talking about going to.
Reviews are good and have to say we quite liked what we saw.Good size hardstanding pitches , clean loos/showers and a short walk into town with lots of places to eat and have a drink.
I am just surprised that there are only 3 reviews ( all good) for 2014. We do like to support community run sites as this is and just thought there would be more reviews?
I know there can be several reasons for this but just wondered if any UKCS members have stayed there..

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
We've never actually stayed there even although we've considered it for a short weekend as it's probably only an hours drive whilst towing for us. We have walked through the site (for a nosy) when on day-trips to Ballater.
From what I've seen it looks like a decent site with modern looking toilet blocks. Position is good, beside the river with walks nearby and only a short walk into the town itself, which is lovely. But, and it's kind of a big but for us, one bank holiday weekend when we walked through it was very, very busy. Cars, caravans & awnings all over the place with no real space between was the impression we got. It depends what you are after, but is space and peace is what you are after steering clear of the busy weeks/weekends might be an idea.
Not too far along the road, the site at Braemar is much more spacious feeling.
We've stayed at Ballater when it was still a Council-run site, out of season and it was almost empty. (Left a positive review.) Ballater town is a half-day to explore, and we really enjoyed the walk along the river (golf course between the path and the camp site). We would have gone back at Easter this year, but heard from a couple in a MH at Banchory (most towns seem to start with a B in that area...) that Ballater was full. Braemar is Caravan Club, and we're not members, so it wasn't an option for us.
Thanks to all for the feedback. We also a had a walk around and the wife had a look inside the ladies loo.
We liked the fact that it was quite a small site and the Statics are in a seperate area.
I thought the pitches were reasonably spaced with room for caravan. awning and car at front, with good size grass strip between neighbours each side. I think things have been improved since it was a council run site.
Been talking to a pal of mine and he was there last year for a week with his tourer, he's not a UKCS member so no review from him but he said it was a good site and he would be going back this year.
He said when you get to the booking form online, you can actually chose your pitch and a map of the pitches can be viewed..
We have stayed at Braemar when it was a C.C. site, the site is excellent but we didn't really like the town itself.. I think it is a C.C. affiliated site now.
Thanks again folks!
