Does anyone have any recommendations regarding these two new Forest sites?
It will just be my and my partner, no kids or pets. Staying during the school hols end of July.
Keen on going here as id love to experience the forest camping with all the horses and wildlife whilst also being allowed to pick your own spot and hopefully a bit of lazing in the sun.
Will one be better than the other at that tike of year or for any other reason?

We always preferred Hollands Wood as it is more sheltered, next to Balmer Lawn and within walking distance into Brockenhurst. We have used Roundhill but more exposed if it is windy.Keep any food secure as we have seen ponies push heads under tents and awning pegging to get at it.

Thanks, how sheltered is it in terms of the sun? If its a really sunny day I want the sun to be beaming down and not just peeking through the canopy :)

I would go for another, Aldridge Hill, get the real forest experience.

Edit: I should add, it has no toilet/ablution facilities that might be a requirement for some.

I do like Aldridge hill but the Mrs requires the facilities!

You can still get plenty of sun through trees in hollands wood as it is not dense .We also like Aldridge hill but you would need to be self contained as no facilities.

Thanks. I think my only concern with Hollands Wood is the time of year we are going, reviews sound like it might be pretty busy, whereas Roundhill sounds much bigger and can still have plenty of space even when busy?

Your concerns are well founded.

We stayed a couple of times in our youth at Hollands Wood when it was quite small and really liked it.
Popping up to the pub for chicken in a basket was very useful for tea with very basic cooking in a 2 man ridge tent full of earwigs.
We use Black Knowl CC site with our caravan now and while passing noticed how big Hollands Wood has got so I would think you will have plenty of space there.
Roundhill is very open so its a choice of trees or moorland.

We tried Hollands Wood and found it V busy.

We now visit Ashurst, which is smaller and doesn't seem to have the same queues for facilities.

I've been to Roundhill a few times and loved it, this year we are trying Ashurst for a change. Just hope it's just as nice as Roundhill.
