Hi
After a recent tour of Scotland have decided to go back next September can anyone advise of scenic peaceful sites in southern Scotland, would like places we can do day trips from and possibly kayaking.
Many thanks

Dumfries and Galloway would be your best bet but the Kayaking bit has stumped me..

Port Patrick is lovely and stayed on a couple of the privately run sites. New England Bay is also worth a visit and you could sea kayak as the waters are reasonably sheltered round here and the site looks onto the beach. Lovely wee site at Port Logan. Dumfries is well worth a visit and has many attractions for the Tourist

Kirkudbright , Brig House Bay has a lot to offer but a larger site but has many secluded pitches away from "The Weans". Beach walking distance and has a slip. Also has a shop,bar and food facilities and its own 18 hole golf course. indoor pool ,sauna / steam room.. Maybe too big ... Need to think about this one ...

I can recommend this one.........................

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=4677

Loads of great walks/cycle routes,  river at edge of site for kayaking/fishing/swimming,  within 30mins drive of lots of interesting towns............and (big bonus for me) ..................NO MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL

Loch Ken & others for kyaking. Have seen a family going down river past Threave Castle near Castle Douglas (council owned site there). Have seen a gaff rigged smack going upriver to Palmackie (near Dalbeattie, several sites therabouts) looked odd seeing its mast above the fields . Use UKCS map search & reviews - sites by beaches, or near forestry or in moorland - one to suit everyone. Search on the forum too as there have been several threads - dark skies a speciality. But whatever you do, don't kyak out to sea as the tides come up not in, like Morecambe Bay. Inlets on the firth may be ok (Kippford my very very favourite, sites up the hill and along the coast at Sandyhils or Rockcliffe).

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Solway View. Just a short walk from Brighouse Bay. Much smaller with gorgeous views.

Drumroamin Farm is a great site and perfect for exploring local area such as Isle of Whithorn and Portpatrick.
