Have Just tried to book a site in Perthshire in August for caravan, awning, dog , two adults a 1 child = £29 / night , PLUS electric hook up. I was under the impression that electricity could not be recharged in such a way. A £10 deposit is required for a prepaid card any value not used is refunded. Also policy is no late stays at that an extra night must be paid for on a Sunday . Am I alone in thinking its a little excessive ?

For August that sounds like a good price to me, how they charge for electricity is irrelevant really because they could say something like "its £34 per night inclusive of electricity" or something like it.
Overall the price sounds right.
I always pay for an extra night if i want to leave after the set departure time, on any day of the week, that way i can leave anytime i like.
I also think this is fair because if you leave late the owner has lost the opportunity of letting that pitch and the loss of the site fee.
Lets say 5 people want to leave late without paying the extra, thats a loss of £150 to the site owner .

Doesn't sound to bad for the summer holidays, most sites at that time of year will be charging any thing from £2.50 upwards for electric per night,as you are on a meter they are not supposed to charge any more than they paid for it so it should be cheaper.

In reality that means three nights for £116 - almost £40 a night plus electricity.

When you say an extra night must be paid for a Sunday is that whether or not you want to stay on Sunday night? If it is then that is the only thing I would have a problem with with. If I want to stay Friday and Saturday night then I don't expect to be charged for Sunday night unless of course I want to leave after checkout out time on the Sunday. Even then a lot of sites will just charge you a reduced fee.

As for the electric this could work in your favour if you are a light user, some sites charge up to as much as £5 a night, at least you only pay for what you use. As for what they can charge you, I don't think they are bound by any rules as to how much they can charge you for each unit of electricity. You would like to think this would be at cost, it would be important to ask them how much this is though.

Of course each site has its own rules and as long as they make these clear when you book then it's your choice and they aren't doing any wrong.

A Camp Site may only Resell Electricity at a Unit Price, at cost, ie: the Unit price they pay themselves.

If they wish to charge more per unit, they are Legally Required, to obtain a Wholesale Electricity Sellers Licence. Which is not economically worth it for them, unless they own multiple sites, with Thousands of Pitches. As the unit price has to also cover the Wholesale Electricity Sellers Licence.

Which is why most sites charge a fixed fee per day, for the use of a EHU, legally they are not Selling Electricity, but the use of the facility. That way they cover the cost of the units used, and also cover the cost of installing and maintaining the EHU's, with a profit on top, in some cases.

I'm struggling with the maths
3 nights at £29per night =£87
PLUS £10 on a prepay EHU card equals £97???? ( with a refund for any electric not used) what am I missing?

One of the issues is that because they want to stay after the departure time on the Sunday they are being charged a fourth night.

Speak to the site. Some on non - peak times (which is not August) will let you stay late for a £5 fee. They may agree that if on Saturday no - one has booked your pitch you may give 1/2 fees or something. Nothing to loose, but they may loose your custom.
