Hi campers! My family are visiting York in 3 weeks and are working our way back up to the Moray Coast in Scotland (north of Aberdeen) with our tent and we would love some recommendations of campsites to stop at on the way. So anything between York and North East Scotland. We're not a huge fan of commercial holiday parks although we have a 3 year old so a nice beach maybe? Thanks for any replies
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Sorry but as a motorcaravanner, I'm not exactly up on tents, but near me are Banff Links and Sandend, both of whicd take tents and are right on beside excellent beaches.
Banff has the advantage of being walkable into town (OK it's a couple of Km.) or to Whitehills in the other direction (Best fishmongers in the area). The site also has a play area just outside the site.
Sandend is more basic, but very nice. Small site shop, but otherwise no shops, cafes or similar.
You can often see seals, dolphins - and the occasional whale from either site.
Banff links - note the crowds!! Whitehills is to the right.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
Beadnell near sea houses in Northumberland is a good site, not too far off the A1 and the beach is full of rock pools. It's a nice site and they often put families on the family field.
The site at Carnoustie (search UKCS on town name, it might be called Woodlands), is one we return to, low key but well maintained, long sandy beach is a short drive away, park with play area is next door. You don't want to have long drives between your stops with a youngster: York to Northumberland is doable, but there to Banff is a long drive.
