We've been going to Bayesbrown Farm every year for the last few years, and will continue to do so - it's basic but beautiful. But just for a change with a short break coming up later this month I'm considering somewhere different.
I'm looking for somewhere ideally that's well amongst the scenery as I'm into my photography and wouldn't mind popping up a local Wainwright for the sunrise.
But probably more importantly I'm hoping for somewhere that's not going to be rammed - we're arriving on the Sunday, so I'm hoping there'll be an exodus if we arrive about lunchtime. Doesn't need to be deserted mind, just reasonably quiet.
So far the only couple of places that I'm coming close to are Chapel House Farm in Borrowdale and Side Farm Campsite, although the appeal there is more picking up an inflatable kayak and going for a paddle.
There must be other places that won't be heaving but are well amongst the views, but after over an hours trawling I'm not spotting them. Can anyone suggest somewhere?

You seem to like the same kind of sites as us. Funnily enough the 3 sites you mentioned were on our hit list when deciding between the lake district and Mull. We chose Mull (Fidden Farm , fabulous if you fancy venturing North - I posted a couple of pics). Anyway, Baysbrown was our top choice had we ventured south. Can you tell me how busy it is likely to be at the beginning of August as we have another week coming up. And also tips for where on the site to pitch for best views/least shade. Don't mind being a distance from facilities.
Last time we were down that way we camped at the Eskdale site and liked that. Lovely views, good walks and great for kids.
at PeeWee - I wish you hadn't of mentioned Parkfoot campsite now. I'm booked in at the Old Post Office Campsite in August and now want to go to Parkfoot

FeebleCat, Bayesbrown is great. We tend to stay in the first field you come to on the left, but a couple of hundred yards back from the stream that splits it from the rest of the site due to midges - they stay close to that stream. And when I say stream, I don't mean Great Langdale Beck that you cross to enter the site.
The busiest I've seen it was mid July a couple of years back during a heatwave, during the week it was fairly quiet but at the weekend it did get crowded. But not as much as some places I've seen, and the flocks disappeared on Sunday.
Parksfoot looks nice but a bit more 'entertainment' orientated than I was looking for - somewhere simples suits me. I'm almost decided on Chapel House Farm but want to know if there's another camping field further back from the car park if it's only one field. Anyone been there able to tell me?
Parkfoot, is a campsite with two halves. First half, is a field by the lake, actual there are a few areas to choose,no entertainment just basic facilities.
The other half is across the lane with the entertainment/pub and a good little shop. Very much separate, best of both worlds.

Pretty much, I did have some pictures but can't find them now, a lot of the campers had canoes and things and launched them straight from the site, google some images
There is also another campsite, further along the lake, can't remember the name. That one is also right on the lake. It seems nice, also what your after. Can't comment on facilities.

Thanks for that. Baysbrown is definitely next new site on our hit list.
Really need to make my mind up soon, but the list keeps getting longer.
Right now I'm veering towards somewhere around Borrowdale because I've only ever really passed through and would like to explore the area more - I'm earmarking Ullswater for a later trip though.
Chapel Farm is out, the main field is right next to the car park (and road) and the others only get opened for overflow which puts my better half off.
Stonethwaite Farm is looking pretty promising though - I think I might have even stayed in their camping barn one night a few years back. Anyone stayed there before, and if so how bad are the midges round there?

I just got from Turner Hall Farm in the Duddon valley. Can't recommend it enough. Stunning walks, quiet, picturesque, wordsworths favourite area! Visit!!
