Hi All,

I hope this is OK as this is my first post. I'm new to Camping and have a wife and an 8 year old daughter.

We've bought all of the gear (to much to be honest), but now need somewhere to go. We went to Callow Top last month (first time Camping Ever) and loved it, but have no idea where to go next.

Ideally, we want to go somewhere close(ish) to a nice little village which we can walk to. We where thinking of somewhere like Hartington or Buxton.

Any help and advise would be massively appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forums!

I'm not the best person to ask about UK sites for families, we usually holiday in France out of season...

However, have you looked in campsite search above?
There is a biggish place within walking distance of Bakewell, which is a nice village. And I think there are sites within walking distance of Buxton too.

I always recommend Red Bank Farm at Bolton le Sands, a nice inexpensive relaxing place where you don't need to spend loads of money.

If you go on the camp site search on this site there are quite a few with reviews.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.

Laneside at Hope near Castleton is a good family friendly site which should tick all your boxes. There is a site up the hill out of Hartington, we have cycled past it. Its a farm site, not sure of the name. Look on google earth. Also Sleningford Mill near Ripon is good with lots to do in the area. Boroughbridge camping and caravanning site, again lots to do, village and a town nearby, fountains Abbey, knaresborough, york all nearby. Another good one is Naburn lock near York. I could goon and on but unsure where you are or how far you wish to travel.

Hi Tigerdude and welcome Not sure how you managed to buy too much camping gear no one has ever done that before

There are a few sites at Buxton, not in Buxton but close by is Beechcroft farm and there is also Lime tree in Buxton

Having said all that Id note Franbees comment and book yourself on the ferry and as far as you can reasonably get in France   Why well A the weather and B it actually costs less generally even allowing fuel and ferry. Have a look in the forum below this one.

We live near here - try bank house farm, hulme end, always seems busy and a great pub on the doorstep and a mile or so from Hartington.

Hi All,

Sorry for the late reply, I've been snowed under. Thanks for all of your suggestions and help.

We live in Derbyshire and after looking into what has been said, we would now ideally want to go to Hartington.

We've rang Upper Hurst Farm, but they are fully booked in August, so will have to keep looking.

Thanks Again
