Well my daughter has just got engaged to a lovely fellow but they're broke, as am I. We thought that we could do a rather unconventional wedding, hopefully next Oct. the idea is we could hire a small campsite or field exclusively for two days. The requirements would be; loos, running water and a covered barn in case of bad weather. We would bring trestle tables and a marquee, if there was no barn, and instead of presents, the guests would contribute, food, performances, flowers etc. we'd have to do a run to France for booze and it would be a casual affair but I'm sure it could be done. The only problem is finding such a site. We live in London but anywhere in the South East would be ok. Do any of you out there know of any gorgeous little sites that would fit the bill. I suppose we could hire loos if need be but that would push up costs.

If they are broke forget the wedding, buy him a set of ladders and suggest they elope to Gretna and come home we'd. Then let them have the cost of a big wedding to set up home with and suggest to people that congratulations on getting married presents would be welcome.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

You might find somewhere suitable in the Sites with Rally Fields in the South East list?

Sorry can't help with the area, but it sounds so romantic and bet the guests will enjoy far more than a big lavish wedding. I think you could make it really magical. Much better than a big formal wedding!

Hi, thanks. I think we need to do a drive around. The only ones we're familiar with aren't very pretty and don't have outdoor space but it does require further research.

I think in England, the location has the licence for the wedding (church, country house, registry office etc). Up here, it's the person who has the licence - a friend's sister was married on the beach on Islay, another friend married at the top of a mountain. It's a lovely romantic & memorable plan for your reception but you may be able to narrow your search by getting a short list of places where the knot will be tied as you'd want the least distance between the two. Some big houses may be able to host the wedding and also have a rally field on the estate (I can think of one outside York, too far for you, has a tea room too). But I'm sure your idea has legs and I'm sure it'll work out wonderfully.

-------------
2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

I don't think that'll be an issue as they will have a registry office do with just witnesses and then a humanist ceremony which can be performed anywhere.

I've just had a quick Google, & found Hallshire.com,
Linton Village Hall, built in 1887, hires out for £8 an hour. It's in Kent. Tanner Farm Campsite is nearby. It's south of Maidstone.
(I've never been anywhere near, I've just Googled).
Hope you get something sorted out...& post some pics. I love wedding photos!

We did exactly this for our youngest daughter's wedding last year, but were lucky to be able to use a friend's field.
We "borrowed" a marquee from another friend, but had to rent a generator and toilets.
We provided a bit of food but everyone else brought enough to share.
