Hi,

I'm feeling frustrated, I've spent hours this morning trying to find the perfect campsite for a few days camping next Thursday and Friday with my children. There's so much choice that I am now confused and frustrated!! Do you ever get stumped trying to find the perfect campsite? Can anyone suggest a good campsite finder websites or even amazing campsites?

I have been looking at the cool camping website but I think its a bit too 'cool' and eco for me. I really don't want sawdust eco loos, solar showers and no cars at the tent... I did that last year and discovered it wasn't quite for me.

I do want campfires and wide open spaces for the children to play, to be free and make friends. I would also like normal toilets and proper hot showers and a little shop. Plus I probably would like allocated pitches with neighbours not too close as I get a bit nervous about picking the 'right spot' when given the choice of the whole site to pitch my tent up. Am I actually being too picky?

I've spent so long looking that I've got fed up and confused now. Can you recommend a site please either New Forest, Dorset, Somerset, Sussex or Hampshire.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

This site really is the best out there honeybeanm you just have to be patient and set a decent amount of time aside to use the search engine.

I've been thinking this week how fantastic it would be if uk campsites could offer a search facility based on user reviews so that for example you could search for campsites rated 8 out of 10 stars only.

Look up Holmsley camp site in the New Forest.

Did write a more full response but looks like it's been deleted, perhaps linking camp site finding websites is breaking forum rules.

This site (ukcampsite.co.uk) is by far the best online as far as I'm concerned. Use the advanced search - by county, facilities etc which will narrow it down and then read the reviews. You could create a favourites list too. Use it in conjunction with each Campsite's own website which should give you more information such as photos and site plans.
For the record we probably fit most of your criteria and we are on the East Sussex/Kent border. Please take a look at our reviews. I hope I've done the link correctly! We are pretty close to fully booked next weekend so if you're interested please call or email.

Thank you Rother Valley for your great tips. The Rother Valley site sounds wonderful. Plus I got married in Tenterden many moons ago.

Thanks

Thanks Sally, I will add it to my list. Its probably a bit far for this trip as we are only going for 2 nights, but will definitely keep it in mind for a longer trip.

Thanks

Hi, I do know what you mean we've just been away for two weeks and looking for sites before we went made my head spin. Even more so in that we were going into "unknown" territory.

Tom's Field in Dorset is really cosy and friendly and they do tell you where to pitch. Bit pricey, though: Tom's Field

I got a bit confused between Suffolk and Sussex but Brighthouse Farm in Suffolk is another really friendly site and it's a lot cheaper: Brighthouse Farm

Take a look at Inwood A Camping It might be what you are looking for. I have never camped there (too close to home) but the area is very nice.

One person's ideal camp site can be another person's hell.

The way I go about it is to decide on an area, then use the search camp site function on UKCS, specifying the must-haves such as free showers and dog accepted, and then read the reviews, starting with the sites with the best review scores first.

Good luck with your search.
