Morning all, First time posting on here so if this is in the wrong place I am Sorry.
I am after some advice please, due to work I am looking at living long term in my caravan but understand I have to leave site every 28 days, these are my questions.
I am unsure of the following:
Is it a case of I physically have to leave site for 48 hours or my unit does?
How do the bigger sites get around this problem with liv in caretakers?
I have found one site that will happily take me long term ( and are prepared to offer me a bit of extra work as well) but obviously do not want to get the site in trouble or cause problems for my self with this 28 day rule
I will be working in Norwich Norfolk so if any one has any suggestions of other sites that if needed be would take long termers with dogs (dogs would only be on site when I am present)in the area that would be great.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I am not how they worked it but I do know of a site where someone had their van for over a year and stayed in it during the week but went home most but not all weekends. The site also offered storage so I think they classed his van as in storage on a weekend so he was only there camping for 5 nights at a time.
Technically the law as you say states that a caravan on a site under a touring site licence cannot be occupied overnight for more than 28 days without a 48hr period of un-occupation, there is nothing in the law that states the unit must be removed from the pitch or site during that time. All of this must fall within the sites licence capacity and season. Different rules apply for workers and by working for the site you may be able to circumvent this rule.
However it is highly unlikely that this law would ever be enforced unless the site was quite clearly being used as a residential site under a touring site licence.
Some sites licences will actually also include a capacity whereby a certain number of vans can be permanently occupied and sometimes without season.
The council don't have the manpower to visit a site every night for 29 consecutive days to check to see if the law is being broken and would I suspect only do so in extreme abuse of a touring licence.
I would say if the site owner is happy for you to stay then do so.

Some CLs we have been on have had long term stays,
Now that's an interesting one as technically CLs are exempt from needing licencing so the 28 day rule probably doesn't apply. However any CL owner allowing you to stay for more than 28 days would actually be breaching the Caravans Club's own rules and so you technically might not be accredited by them and would then be in breach of the law as an unlicensed site.
As I said previously though, the law is so vague and essentially unenforceable on this matter that it's hardly worth worrying about.
Many sites have the licences they do due to the regularisation of previous long term breaches of the law or existing licences.
We are at a CL called Cowtrott near Rollesby in Norfolk, don't know if it's too far from Norwich (at least 15 miles, maybe more), you could email or phone the owner (she responds quickly to emails), 1 review on here, not mine yet. Sorry, can't do links.
