There is a site just off the A1 at Leeming Bar, Pembroke Caravan Site. There are also several sites nearby at Bedale.

This is just south of Scotch Corner so is roughly halfway for you.

I have not been there myself but I know the area and have heard good reports.

Highfield farm, Tunstall near Catterick Garrison is a lovely site and not far from A1 with beautifully clean toilet/shower blocks. Only 6 tourer spaces as the other 100+ are seasonal so the site is very well kept.

Durham caravan club site is literally just off junction 62 of A!(M)  Durham/Sunderland road.  Park and ride on opposite side of junction gets you into Durham,   Shame to miss out on Durham on your way north.  BEWARE the A1 western bypass round Newcastle/Gateshead   They are putting in an extra lane and it is a nightmare at the best of times

Contra flow also at Stannington for 5+ miles so traffic very slow.
