Bummer! 
They'd ripped out that central hedged "island" when we were there at the end of Feb. Plenty of other work going on too. Never gave it a thought they were getting rid of tent pitches! 
We're not fans of being stuck in a corner either, and certainly not being pitched under trees, so I guess we'll be doing the same as you, welshy... wishing Graham & Alison all the best, thanking them for allowing us to stay at their wonderful site, (Think we're about the 20 nights mark too, having started with 11 nights in that central island pitch, then 3 or 4 weekends). We've been lucky enough to find other sites that, whilst not as quirky, are equally as enjoyable and welcoming, for different reasons, and of course, there are plenty of others that remain untried, but on the "short list".
Certainly a shame, despite trying hard to put a brave face on it!!
