Is there a law that requires a caravan to be parked with the A frame at the front of a pitch, e.g. rear against a hedge.
I am asking this as I would like to buy a Hobby and the lounge seems to be at the back of the van.

No law but varies site to site. The caravan club are very strict on pitching so might be an issue if you were intending to go to their sites.
Never an issue on CCsites, I have had my Hymer now for 13 years use an awning and van goes in whichever way gives the best view.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
The reason many campsites give as to why they want the A frame to the front is so that the caravan can be hitched up and towed off pitch quickly, in say the event of a fire.

This was also my understanding although what happens if your awning is up? Do you tow it with the awning still attached in the event of fire?
I stayed at highlands end nr bridport last week and some one with the same van as me had parked it with the a frame at the hedge end of the pitch, I guess with a motor mover. Not sure why although it could have been so that the awning was on the lea side not the windward.
