Hi all
We are hoping to sneak a 5 nighter in a couple of weeks time and would like to go up Scotland way to some of the nice scenic parts but not much further than 3 hrs so would greatly appreciate any suggestions
Thanks

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Loads of nice sites in Dumfries and Galloway. But we'd need to know a bit more of what you're looking for in and around a site before specific recommendations.
Two and a half hours will take you to Edinburgh so I would suggest doing a search for sites within approximately 50 miles of Edinburgh, or alternatively Dumfries & Galloway as suggested in the previous post.
Yes, we like Kippford too. (We come to that part of Dumfriesshire at least once a year.) Were less keen on the site there, but check recent reviews & there are other sites locally. Cheap & cheerful honesty box golf course opposite. Walking & biking in forestry at nearby Dalbeattie, lots of wee castles to explore (Orchardton nearby is small, round & free!) Water Mill at New Abbey is very interesting (National Trust). The Farm Shop & coffee shop at Beeswing is well worth a visit - it's the Loch Arthur Community, for adults needing supported living. Huge Tesco off the Dumfries bypass.
The Borders has its charms too but I'll let others persuade you as I'm less familiar with the east side.
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs beats all the rest by a country mile, especially if you can avoid the main tourist traffic.
However the 3 hour bit is the killer. An extra hour would make all the difference.
Scotland is all about dramatic scenery, rather than rolling fields and towns and cities.
Just my humble opinion and I'm entitled to express it.
If you fancied Loch Lomond, then timing-wise, it's two and a half hours from Carlisle to Stoneymollan roundabout north of Dumbarton without stops but not travelling at breakneck speed. Don't know how long it takes from Newcastle to Carlisle though.

Newcastle to Carlisle would be about 2 hours max. South Yorkshire to Carlisle is 2.5 hours if the traffic is OK. Hexham to Carlisle is about 1.5 hours max. So Loch Lomond is beyond the 3 hour limit set by OP. As is the far west of Dumfries & Galloway. Up as far as Edinburgh is OK.
(But as for Loch Lomond, I'd go to one of the sites on the east shore - CCC or Forestry Commission - the Luss one on the west shore is right by a very busy A-road and therefore constantly noisy. No noise on the other side....)
