I wonder if anyone can help; I'm looking to see if anyone knows information or where I can find information relating to safety on a campsite?
We visited a campsite at the weekend where we had to leave as it was so unsafe; our head was approx 2 feet from a main back road with no adequate separation and campfires all night long about 1 foot from our tent.
Not to mention a whole host of other problems. I know they gave to register with local councils but wanted to see if there is anything they have to follow before I go down that route,
Thanks

Not sure what the regulations are but if you google it you may well find out. Can say that the C&CC sites (and I presume the Caravan Club) sites have strict rules on separation of pitches. 6 metes between springs to mind.
As with all things in life "you get what you pay for" so if you use cheap sites they may not conform to the best practices.
I have always found that the reviews given by members on this site are tremendously helpful in choosing sites. People in general want to give an honest opinion of where they stayed and any site with a number of adverse reviews is automatically off our list. Check the reviews before you even consider going to a site and you will not go far wrong.
Any registered site with have to comply with planning regs an abide by the local councils site licence - they are largely what set tge rules for any site.... however some site 5 cls for example dont have licences just a set of rules from there ruling body the cc or ccc...
------------- If you can't beat em, join em, so we did! And then we sold it for a holiday let & Glamping pod instead 😁

So, to the OP, I suggest if the site is listed on here, leave a review, including your concerns. (If it's not already listed use this "contact us" link first)
And, if it's a commercial site, notify the council, or, if it's a Certificated Site, The Camping and Caravanning Club (or whichever Exempted Organisation granted their Certificate).
As I understand it, the 6m rule relates to fire safety. A campfire so close to your tent would probably be a fire hazard. The road so close to your head sounds mighty unpleasant, but it's a safety issue only if there's nothing stopping road users leaving the Tarmac and ploughing into you (fence, wall, hedge etc.) As suggested, write an objective review of the site on UKCS and they'll lose all our potential custom! If you're concerned for others, a letter to the local council (maybe copied to the local fire brigade) at least salves your conscience for other campers potentially put at risk. I've complained to CCC about just one site & got a very unsatisfactory answer.
