Gallery Images:   0 Hi everyone. I have just joined this site and I have never written in a forum before so I hope this is right. I have just bought a trailer tent and I am planning on doing some travelling with the kids next summer hols. Nothing major... I would like to explore the Jurassic Coast because I live in Weymouth,Dorset, and I think we should go see more of our beautiful coastline near by. Does anyone have any planning advice or recommendations of places to stay in that part of the Southwest? It runs from Exmouth to Poole (ish!) I have a dog and 2 teenage boys, I would appreciate any tips or advice as this will be our first adventure!! 😊 thanks campers

Try starting off at Tom's Field at Langton Matravers just outside Swanage. A 20 minute walk takes you to the South Coastal Footpath and Dancing Ledge from where you can walk east towards Swanage and Studland or west towards ...er...Weymouth and beyond

Some beaches don't allow dogs, but I can't list which - sorry. Google or Tourist Info will have maps. We stayed at the CCC site at Charmouth to visit Lyme Regis (great beach for fossil hunting - kept OH happy hunting all afternoon) - nice enough site but its listing says it's "close to" the beach.... But it certainly is not in walking distance.

Congratulations on your new TT. Are you planning to tour about or pitch up and stay put? My first week-long camp as a newbie was at Hook Farm, which is a pleasant walk from Lyme Regis or a few minutes by road. It's a good site and perfectly positioned as a base for exploring the area, so you could probably pitch here and not have to move again: Lyme and Axminster have all the shops you'll need to get by.

Apart from the fossils and the walking, Seaton Tramway is a surprise hit which seems to work for all ages. Hire a boat at Beer. The cinema in Lyme is top and the Marine Theatre gets some good acts. Try the New Inn at Kilmington. Visit the Archway Bookshop in Axminster. It's a well reviewed area so Trip advisor is reasonably reliable.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it and I hope you'll let us all know how you get on!

Can second the Seaton Tram. We went this summer and it was lovely. Dogs have to travel downstairs, but if it's wet or cold that's not a bad thing. Beer Caves is well worth a visit too, but someone will have took stay outside with the dog as you can't take them in.

Thanks for the comments. I want to start in Exmouth and travel along the coastline to Swanage. I am going to stay in either Beer or Lyme so I will checkout Hook Farm, thanks. I really want to go to Beer caves... I was thinking of looking for doggy day care so we can all go. I had the tt out yesterday n gave it all a proper look over, it needs some tlc and I was disheartened for a short while but I think I will enjoy making it nice again. Any more advice and information about our adventures is very welcome, Thanks everyone 😊

If you end up near Swanage I can recommend Woody Hyde campsite near Corfe Castle.

Woody hyde is fun to watch the steam railway go by. There are 3 fields and 2 shower blocks and a shop. Its easy to drive to Corfe and Swanage and Studland Beach from the site. We popped into Norden Farm and liked the look of the farm shop and resident cat but didnt see the pitches.
